The Chinese have a fad for decorative woods domestically - far more than in the UK, as well as for making cheap furniture for the rest of the world. Hence the reason for the tropical rainforest obsession. However, it is hard to work and heavy to transport - both in terms of shipping or simply lugging the coffee table across the rounge froor. Also, the Chinese, while enterprising, are suffering a lot of pressure in other parts of the world re. logging/ deforestation. It is a dangerous business and, moreover, the costs of infrastructural input - re. logging roads being washed away by the rains, make the tropical option only attractive in part. In the economic downturn this globalisation is likely to make less sense. International pressures are also being put to bear. I wish I could read the directors' minds, but if they cannot this product in China then I would be very surprised! If they got a Chinese licencee onboard, or several, it would be worth millions a year in revenues I guess!
