BHP appeared to pay a premium for GG's shares then a premium for the next 100m. Their average is still below where we are today and they have the shares to short this with to lower the price and buy in a dip.

In all honesty I would be a little disappointed if BHP didn't have someone on this board trying to manipulate it (fwiw).

BHP will have been able to make a lot more sense of the technical details in the public domain and extrapolate a value. There is no need for them to have had inside info.
