By who and to what end? You are pulling my dangler for sure.
If you were looking to buy, say, a car, would you look around it then say " that looks better than I expected, I'm surprised it's so cheap."
We can't actualy see black holes but the affect they have on other things leaves little doubt that they exsist.
If I was in the position BHP and Newcrest are I would not want the share price racing away so that any bid I had to suggest would appear undervalued. I would do all I could to keep a lid on the sp so that when I step up with my "very generous offer" it looks irresistable.
BHP have leeway within their shareholding to sell into or buy into the market which on a daily basis is tiny) and make a difference. The link posted earlier was spot on. Late reported trades dragging the sp down, it happens daily here.
I'm not suggesting it's illegal or even unethical to do it. Like a black hole, however, it is more likely than not that it exsists and is happening.
