Martin Eales, the CEO of Rainbow Rare Earths, believes Beijing could afford to take the plunge, however, because rare-earth exports make up a relatively small amount of China's export balance with the US.

"I'm sure it is quite possible for China to do this as part of a wider series of actions linked to any trade war with the US," he told Business Insider.

The US imported $160 million worth of rare-earth materials in 2018, according to the US Geological Survey. Eighty percent of such imports came from China from 2014 to 2017, the USGS noted, meaning that the US most likely imported about $128 million worth of rare earth from China last year.

That would be just 0.024% of the $526 billion that the US imported from China in 2017, the most recent data available per World Bank statistics.

"This is certainly a relatively insignificant sum to China in the context of overall trade," Eales said.

At this level, it’s an almost unparalleled opportunity, high risk yes but the recent director buys and reiteration of strategy reduce this somewhat. More buys than sells today and yet down 10%, it’ll switch soon and start rising back towards 2p IMO

Let’s say for arguments sake they acquire a small company for £1m to be satisfied 50/50 in cash and shares. With a current market cap of just £1.2m any kind of acquisition would add value to the share price. In fact I can’t remember an example of an AIM company completing an acquisition when valued at less than cash?

And I would expect it to complete pretty quickly given they’ve already announced that a term sheet has been agreed - most likely the valuation has been decided and they will want to complete it asap.

No doubt this is high risk, but it could genuinely be a ten bagger if they announce some unexpected good news!

No selling after mid morning, so a bit of stability with most buyers holding their shares for the next leg higher!

I would say cumulative volume in 2 days has been higher than in the entire time since IPO. Last year it dropped from 15p IPO to 8p on tiny tiny volume, then the negative trading update, City Financial fire sale, US Bank project cancellation & Herald sale combined to drive it to a crazy valuation.

With the product they have built & companies they have and are still working with, there would be a genuine case for crowdfunding at this valuation. I honestly think they could raise £2m at a valuation of £10m on Crowdcube. A £1.3m market cap for a genuine fintech company is madness!

Interesting to see where the price goes now that more people are aware of the company, if it falls back to 1.2p I’ll double my holding, as any acquisition will have a positive impact on the price at these levels IMO.

£5m market cap (which is peanuts) = 6.25p for a 290% rise.

Also worth bearing in mind that Arden Partners had a target price of 30p as of November 2018. Yes there has been a setback with the US bank, but 1.7p to buy is crazy. Accumulate and hold for the bounce back to fair value!

Agree Mr Brown - 10p = £8m market cap. A nice 5x from here. Feel secure that directors bought only 4 months ago at 3p and that was before the acquisition news was made public
