Final point to note - 2 years from today's interview given as timeline to secure environmental permit. Might be SC buying time/managing expectations, but we're a long way off construction (and even further off production). We essentially have $100m to get to that stage, with which we'll produce a FS and make a decision to go mining. At that point, we'll have access to the remaining $650m and will have to start thinking about raising the remaining $1bn - via debt, offtakes and at some point down the line equity.

Also noted Caldwell stating "we are a copper miner". I think structuring the recent finance around gold was done so that anyone interested in buying out a copper mine will be able to retain the lion's share of the output.

I think what you lay out addicknt is a clean path to a positive outcome for shareholders and makes the investment case for SOLG (which will become solely Cascabel/Tandy) much nester. Investors will be buying into a Tier 1 mine in development that has already landed 50% of pre-production funding with debt/offtakes being discussed for the remaining tranche (and time on our side).

At the moment the regionals are not being at all valued by the market (demonstrated by damp reactions when we've released positive news on them over the last few years). Yes our holdings in the NewCo would be diluted but I'd wager that'd be offset by a rise here, and, exploration upside would be back on the table in a meaningful way.

Addicnkt 15.02 - I agree and thought this earlier. This would represent a clean outcome of the SR. SOLG then becomes Cascabel + Tandy and has secured 50% of pre-production funding, shareholders given shares in NewCo and placing done there to raise a reasonable amount of capital for further exploration, giving investors the opportunity to sell up and take some money off the table or hold on for the higher risk but higher reward exploration play.

This deal was far, far better than anything I was expecting in all honesty. It's a huge sum and a massive win for Scott and the team. I agree with you add that the next piece of news ought to be the revised IPA. In some ways, having this ifinancing s place first makes sense as SOLG can avoid making the same mistake it did last time and overcommit how much it will spend developing Cascabel.

It'd be nice to see some institutions buying back in here now a huge dose of risk has been taken off the table.

Redknight, not sure I follow that logic. Mather is an NED at Clara and the funds used from selling down their stake in 1SN are to be put towards development of Clara's Ashford coal coking project. I don't see how Mather will be able to use these funds in any way related to DGR.

Why do people suddenly think that majors are going to bid for SOLG because they've secured funding? It makes no sense whatsoever. We are undoubtedly in a stronger position to defend against low offers and keep the lights on operationally for the next few years. But if I'm a major miner I'm doing what I've done up to this point, sitting back and watching SOLG keep doing the hard graft of obtaining permits, producing a FS etc.

The Chinese and the Arabs are continuing to burn fossil fuels (and build more power stations) so that 1) they can maintain a growing economy and 2) they can use money from said growing economy to invest in renewable technologies. Once they reach a tipping point where they can generate enough reliable power to go green they'll turn the polluting stuff off and rely on renewables.

However, the current AI hysteria we've just entered in to has meant that the demand for power has and will continue to grow considerably, so the target is moving further and further away. Meaning it'll likely be longer before these economies can 'go green'.

As Jezzoo rightly points out, if the Chinese and others can do this, why can't we? It hurts consumers in the pocket and means we fall (further) behind.

Look at the non-core assets that Newmont are selling. Six are assets already in production. Two are projects in which they have a controlling share (Havieron and Coffee in AUS and CND respectively). They hope to raise $2bn via optimising their portfolio. The 10% stake they currently hold in SOLG is worth £27m.

It would have been embarrassing - both for us and for Newmont - should they have included their investment here as up for sale alongside the other assets and projects they announced. The fact that we weren't on that list to me shows that we are not even part of the conversation at NMM, not that they have any interest here long term.

I'm not so sure. Jiangxi is a province in China. There is nothing to suggest that the copper producer (Jiangxi Copper, our investor) is directly linked to the bank. Naturally there will be a relationship between the two entities, but I highly doubt this impacts Jiangxi's ability to operate, invest etc.

If it is 'just' financing we're announcing, it has to be accompanied by what it's actually for, with achievable, realistic timeliness alongside it. Are we producing a DFS? When will we actually start construction? How much is needed for tailings site land acquisition?

It can't just be "we've landed £XXm and will be continue to derisk Cascabel" and back to hoping for a bid while we get our permits. Some meat on the bone required.
