Interesting idea, but I don't think it would be practical. For example, it would be important for the entire global medical research community to be aware of trial outcomes.

This is a week or two old, but I don't recall seeing it posted - apols if it was. It's quite technical, so here's my (very much non-expert) summary :

What they've shown (ex vivo, using lung tissue) is that Covid-19 (=SARS-CoV-2) induces a much lower interferon response compared with SARS-Cov, even though the virus replicates more rapidly.

We already know that coronaviruses have this apparent ability to suppress the interferon response (as Richard Marsden has been telling us, e.g. in the recent Proactive interview ~3 minutes in). But this study appears to be showing that Covid-19 is especially good at it!

Interesting idea! Depends on what fraction of patients are in the trial I suppose. And remember Southampton is also part of the "Recovery" trial.

So I'm pretty sure this definition of ILI will cover C19.

Very good question to ask though - I'm all in favour of "constructive worrying" :-)

Not wishing to dampen enthusiasm, but just to be clear, the RTRC support has been there since the start of the trial - it's mentioned in the 18 March RNS.

I'm not sure exactly what specific benefits the new "Urgent Public Health study" status confers, but I'm sure it can't be a bad thing!

It looks like as of 8th, references to interferon have been removed completely, and the Beeb must be out of date?
