"I can tell people here have never been to Africa"
I was born in Johannesburg and lived in Cairo for 11 years. They're both cities, granted, but electricity is absolutely fundamental to healthy and productive living. Wood smoke is 7 times more carcinogenic than cigarette smoke and vast numbers of dwellings in Africa don't have chimneys. The life expectancy average in Africa is 64, with subsaharan Africa being about 58. Living in nature is absolutely lethal for humans, our evolutionary advantage is our brains, which are used to modify nature to make it progressively less harmful.
