RE: ANCAP31 May 2020 10:32
We know that Ncap will start awarding credits for DMS very shortly, their system of star ratings works on credits so OEM's will be rewarded for having DMS, their recent video mentioned "Driver State Monitoring" and included a credit for Seeing Machines, so that's pretty cast iron. So its carrot not stick.
The GSR (general safety regulations) that Aine Denari mentioned in the podcast is the EU commission stuff we have discussed in detail on here, it applies to all new cars sold in Europe from 2024 and it's a stick not carrot no choice for OEM's, the point she well made in the podcast was if your are a global manufacturer then it makes sense to apply DMS as standard across all models and regions
When I think global I think, America's best selling Car or light vehicles, UK best selling then I think worlds best selling models and it brings me to Ford, Toyota and VAG.
So I dont care about Volvo , they sell less in a year than Toyota sell in a month.
So if we really can't win all DW, I would take 3 of these 4 and that would more than suffice.
In order of preference
1) Toyota - high volume, they will want chip and hence more sticky
2) Ford expansion - chip again, Fiesta best seller in UK.
3 Honda , chip, veoneer and Qualcomm connections
4)VAG - should be higher on volume but they dont seem to know what they want, they may dual source and hence less units for us.
So give me Toyota, Ford and Honda , alongside what we already have and thats a huge chunk of the market.
