RE: Confirmations27 Jul 2020 18:59
Badger, in Europe there are 2 things at play, the carrot of EuroNCAP and the stick of the GSR (link posted earlier is to the GSR not NCAP). The carrot has got delayed, no worries as the GSR (general safety regulations) is a mandate, so whether an OEM wants to aim for 5 star or 3 star from NCAP they need DMS as is a mandate.
This is what I posted on the day of the RNS to try explain it.
"2024 is now07 Jul 2020 21:14
So today's RNS stated
"DMS in all cars and trucks sold in the US from 2024, lining up closely with the European General Safety Regulation, passed into law in November 2019"
So US and Europe mandating our tech from 2024 for all cars and trucks in 41 months time. Sounds a long way off, then look at these 2 examples
1) Merc S Class, Sop Sept 2020 for the cars to be on the roads Q1 2021. So Q1 2021 minus 41 months is Oct 2017, anyone care to guess when we got the mercedes design win RNS ?
2) Ford went the fast route with the Chip, so DW was June 2018, Sop Sept 2020, cars on road early 21 , so let's call it 29 months.
So based on those real examples the window for an OEM to make RFQ decisions and appoint a DMS tier 2 is July 2020 to July 2021, or next 12 months in simple terms.
So is there any OEM who sell cars or trucks in US or Europe who have yet to appoint a DMS supplier, yes just a few off the top of my head
Toyota
VW Group
Ford (Europe)
Honda
Freightliner
