Phulbari and the Green Light!14 Sep 2024 18:43
I’ve been chilling in the garden today, apart from a 4-mile fast walk/ run, (It was only 4 miles because I have a bad back lol), and so have been doing a lot of reading and more research, the more I read and thought about Phulbari OPM, the more I feel positive that our time is now getting very close ….
We all know Bangladesh have been in trouble for years, and the position has only been getting worse, but because of Hasina and her governments corruption. They had got themselves into such a situation where they could do nothing about it, and as we now know, they certainly could not have given the green light to GCM ….
Reading about the Matarbari Power Plant, and one of the other plants earlier in the week, says so much about the situation and how difficult the position is for the new Energy Minister, and how much of a corner he has now backed in to through no fault or his own.
They have no Fx to import coal, they have no funds to pay to maintain the power plants, they have no funds to pay for the electricity supplied, and they have no funds to maintain the ports or dredge the rivers so they can transport the coal they import so therefore they are stuffed…..
It’s okay for the Energy Minister to come out today and say that he will now only be authorising smaller projects, but that is not going to give them the power that they need… Being reliant and investing in renewables short term to give them the power they need is also just a pipe dream and is also not going to give them enough electricity to keep the country turning over!
So what’s left….
Of course Phulbari…. The scheme of development, is with the government, the project feasibility studies etc are all completed and the project ready to go, the contract for the finance with Power China is all signed and agreed, so it won’t cost the Bangla government anything to finance if they give the green light, and we know that it will create employment from day one and within two years they could be getting coal to supply all the power plants within the country!
What’s not to like about it and what other options do the government really have left open to them now!! 🤔🤷♂️
Let’s see what the next few weeks brings ….
