Govt to form search committee for constituting new Election Commission

Chief Adviser's Special Assistant Mahfuj Alam on Saturday said the government will form a search committee following the existing law to constitute a new Election Commission for taking forward the relevant activities to hold the next national election.

Liberal Democratic Party president Colonel (retd) Oli Ahmad on Saturday called for a quick completion of reform works before holding the next national election, reminding all that the time is limited.

‘We are telling you that reforms need to be done quickly. Time is short, you have to work fast,’ he told reporters after holding a dialogue with chief adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at state guest house Jamuna.

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus underwent a minor medical procedure at Dhaka's Combined Military Hospital on Thursday. He resumed his duties this morning, said the Chief Adviser's press wing.

The Chief Adviser will meet leaders of several political parties tomorrow as part of the ongoing dialogue with them.

Fifteen political parties, including Gono Forum, Liberal Democrats Party (LDP) and Bangladesh Jatiya Party (Andaleeve), are among those which are likely to join Saturday's dialogue.

As we have seen since August this year, a lot can change in a very short period in Bangladesh, so I am not even considering or worrying about what may happen in 9 month’s time and personally don’t rule out anything right now, but if you really feel that strongly about it and are that disgruntled, then why don’t you do us all a favour and just sell up and leave us all in peace…

Now 2025 has been mentioned as an election year, there will now be a lot more pressure, especially from the BNP, to come up with an actual date….

I’m guessing that pressure will build and carry on this weekend when the political parties meet again with Yunus!!

Law Adviser Asif Nazrul has said the next national election could be arranged by the next year - 2025 - after completing the pre-election preparations including formation of a new Election Commission through a search committee.

"I think realistically, holding the election can be possible by next year. There are many factors. This is a preliminary assumption to me," he said.

i know that i shouldn't but this article did make me laugh.... where do these environmentalists think the money is going to come from to enable them to change to 100% renewable by 2050 ffs, they can’t even pay the bills that they already have, and people are starving on the streets…. do they think that any of those people really give a **** about how much energy is produced by either renewables or using their own resources they just want what gives them electricity asap at the cheapest rate…
