They are being urged to give 900 billion, but it looks like they don’t even want to commit to 200 billion…

And they think they are going to just close these coal plants after all the money the Chinese have invested in them…. That’s something imo that again is not going to happen…. There is no way the Chinese would just sit back and let it happen!!!

As the first IPP (independent power producer) power project in Bangladesh financed, constructed, and operated by a Chinese company, the plant has steadily increased its annual power generation since commercial operation began in 2023. In its first year, the plant generated 1.06 billion kWh of electricity. This year, it reached a record-breaking annual generation of over 1.6 billion kWh, continuously injecting stable "green energy" into the local economy and livelihood development.

I noted this part of the RNS and wondered if this could be exactly what you are talking about and that discussions with lower ministers have already been taking place ??

Have not read the whole RNS yet, so this might be way off line, but when they say “significant progress has already been made towards securing finance ” maybe that’s what they are referring too 🤷‍♂️

In the year review part it states

“In March this year, the Company signed a contract with PowerChina for Mine Construction and Overburden Stripping. This EPC contract would effectively cover all mining activity required to expose coal and is a clear demonstration of the Company's capability of delivering the Project. Significant progress has also been made towards securing finance.”

Default loans in Bangladesh increased by nearly 17%, reaching Tk284,000 crore as of September 2024.

This marks the highest level in many years, according to bankers.

South Asia’s solar energy push faces a battle for land

Bangladesh, which uses about 70% of its land for agriculture, issued a government circular in 2023 making it illegal to build solar parks in land that is used for growing multiple crops a year. The agriculture sector employs some 40% of Bangladesh’s population, according to the Asian Development Bank.

Plans for the construction of solar parks in Barapukuria, a coal mine area in the northwest of Bangladesh, have also been held up due to protests, said local resident Asad Sarkar, confirming local media reports.

Rohini Kamal, a research fellow at Bangladesh’s Brac University, stressed the importance of including local communities in discussions about renewables projects.

“Without a fair deal with the farmers, herders, fishermen and other land users, you cannot ensure solar growth that adds jobs,” she said.

There also are clear indications from Washington about the Trump administration initiating investigation into corruption and financial crimes inside the Clinton Foundation and Clinton Global Initiative.

To anti-Hasina groups and civil-military officials, while Muhammad Yunus was seen as a “great asset” before November 6 now has become a “heavy cargo”, who can be the key reason behind the series of odds and extreme challenges Dhaka would face both from the Trump administration and India.

Bangladesh’s already struggling economy shall face unimaginable consequences if President Trump imposes a 30-35 percent tariff on all exports from Bangladesh just to give a befitting lesson to friend of Clintons and Trump-hater Yunus.

Bangladesh’s interim government, led by Mohammad Yunus, has received provisional approval for its Interim Government Ordinance, 2024, which will give it more powers.

The new ordinance will make sure the interim government’s actions between the formation of the new parliament and the appointment of the prime minister will be legally valid.
