4 thousand megawatt of capacity sitting idle for scarcity of gas, coal

Bangladesh’s 4,256 megawatt electricity generation capacity is sitting idle due to shortage of primary fuel gas and coal while the productive industry is suffering for these fuels.

The Payra plant with the capacity for 1320 MW has already been shut down for the past week, while the Rampal plant is on the brink of closure due to lack of coal.

Coal Tender Cancelled Amid Irregularities

Meanwhile, the interim government has cancelled the tender invited by RPCL-Norinco International Power Limited (RNPL) to import coal on a long-term basis for the Patuakhali 1,320 MW coal-fired power plant. The tender was cancelled on the recommendation of an investigation committee formed by the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources following allegations of 'irregularities' in the tender invitation.

A delegation from the youth-led National Citizen Party (NCP) will travel to China later in August at the invitation of the Chinese government.

The eight-strong team will be led by NCP convener Nahid Islam, who is also due to travel to Malaysia on Saturday. The China trip will run from Aug 26-31, party officials said.

Interesting read, and another example of how when Hasina was in power, deals were done with India for lower quality stone even though high quality stone was available on her own door step in Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur district …

In 8 months, they have now managed to turn things around and are supplying granite stone for roads, rail, etc etc in their own country using their own stone and the company has now started to make a profit ….

Hopefully the same is about to happen using their own coal to supply their own coal power plants with a much higher quality coal from Phulbari …. 😊

- how do you know that the Phulbari website has nothing to do with GCM ?

- ⁠how do you know that the $15 billion dollar mining engineering company, a statement that was in the Bangla press back in February is not correct?

You don’t, it’s all speculation at this stage, as is whether Phulbari will ever go ahead or not…. That’s why you can buy for under 5p….. If it was FACT you’d be paying 10 times + plus today’s price!!
