Inside, there is a sensor just ahead of the steering wheel that appears to be measuring driver attention. Besides the jubilee of cables around the rear-view mirror, this prototype also features a large screen in the form of a tablet that is placed front and center, potentially confirming a previous GM Authority exclusive that the next-gen Escalade will feature a huge center screen.

The sighting of this autonomous Cadillac Escalade confirms whispers that the future Escalade – which is coming for the 2021 model year – will not only feature SuperCruise (which just received an update), but also an even more advanced self-driving system – potentially called Ultra Cruise.

In addition, the various LIDAR and RADAR systems on this Escalade are similar to the GM Cruise AV prototypes that we have seen in the past. Outside of that, not much else is known about this particular prototype, but whatever it ends up being, we can now be certain that it will have a steering wheel, since GM has nixed plans to launch an autonomous car with no steering wheel or pedals in 2019.

When I re-read this interview with the impressive Mike Lenne from Aug-2018 it restores my faith in the cutting edge nature of SEE technology and just how commercially valuable SEE's tech actually is...

SEE is one of those amazing companies with mind-blowing technology that is in need of no-bullshit management to exploit to the hilt its valuable offerings though we shouldn't minimise the importance of KK's in SEE's development. I hope he's employed on a consultancy basis

When SEE's tech reaches pivot point in terms of market reach then revenues will explode but that's 2 years away...that makes SEE a sitting duck...the contract revenues are signed-in but 2 years into the future and that makes SEE a valuable company to own...time is the only limiting factor here

Unconventional Natural Gas Development: The Pennsylvania Experience

In the years since natural gas drilling began in the Marcellus and Utica shales, the US State of Pennsylvania has experienced the development of over 11,000 unconventional wells, a multi-billion pipeline construction build out, and the single largest investment since World War II - Shell Pennsylvania Chemicals – the first downstream petrochemical manufacturing facility of its kind on the east coast of the United States.

Denise Brinley, the Executive Director of Pennsylvania Governor’s Office of Energy will speak about Pennsylvania's experience with responsible unconventional gas development.

Denise's office straddles energy policy, workforce development, and economic development, giving her a unique view of the challenges and opportunities presented by the development of this resource.

After her presentation Denise will be joined on a panel for further discussion and input from Northern Territory stakeholders. The panel will include:

I'm just wondering if SEE is being put back into the shop window or if the placing is designed to capitalise on the fact that our DMS is now the only one in the world that is tried, tested and operating effectively and without trouble. The placing being in place to finance the expansion of SC with GM

Auto companies must surely be watching the development of Super Cruise and thinking this is the way forward for autonomous driving.

At some point investors will want their pound of flesh here as they have bankrolled SEE for many years without much to show for it. It is now time to repay that financial faith and if that means selling the company for a wad of cash then that's what needs to happen

“Super Cruise is extremely popular with our customers and has earned all kinds of accolades from the press and the tech world. It’s going to get better each year and each generation, just like Cadillac itself and just like General Motors," said GM President Mark Reuss when announcing the increased availability Wednesday at the UBS Global Industrials & Transportation Conference.

Reuss declined to discuss the cost associated with updating the mapping and increasing Super Cruise’s availability.

The added miles will be available by the fourth quarter to 2018 and 2019 Cadillac CT6 owners through their Cadillac dealer. They are part of a software update to the system that will be enabled by the dealer and then remotely downloaded to the vehicle.

In addition to the mileage expansion, the software update will include performance improvements to Super Cruise and its driver-monitoring system, which uses facial recognition to determine if a driver is attentive.

GM has regularly updated the system since its launch nearly two years ago on the 2018 CT6. It plans to expand the system to every Cadillac model beginning next year as well as to other GM brands. Reuss previously said every GM vehicle could eventually offer Super Cruise.

Current CT6 owners will have to go to their Cadillac dealer to receive a software update that will upgrade the Super Cruise system to handle these new highways, which GM says will also include unspecified “performance improvements, enhancements to increase Super Cruise availability and enhancements to the Driver Attention System.” After that, the new map data will be sent to the cars via an over-the-air update. (GM recently revealed a new electronic vehicle architecture that will power most of its lineup by 2023 that will make more robust over-the-air updates possible.)

Mario Maiorana, the chief engineer of Super Cruise at GM, said in an interview with The Verge that the expansion is “in line” with what the automaker had originally planned for the driver assistance feature. The reason for the deliberate rollout is that GM wants to cover all of its bases so that Super Cruise works as advertised any time a driver activates it, regardless of which car they’re in.

“Every vehicle has its own unique dynamics and styling that we work around to make sure that the system operates,” he said. “We’re going to ensure, before it goes on a vehicle, that that work has been done.”

But the expansion is the latest sign that GM is finally getting ready for Super Cruise to reach a wider audience. In April, the automaker announced some major upgrades to Super Cruise’s performance. Just last week, Cadillac announced two new models — the CT5-V and CT4-V — that will offer Super Cruise as an option when they become available next year. All Cadillac models will offer Super Cruise from 2020 onward as part of GM’s push to make it the most future-facing brand in the company’s stable.
