Now down to business.4 Jan 2021 06:59
It would seem that some posters on here are under the impression that it is, finally, between RMG and the CWU that is..."Peace in our time".
Errr...nooo.
Its not quite as simple as that.
Even though I would hope that the latest pay deal (AND terms and conditions) should be accepted by the employees...there is still the "devil is in the detail."
It is what Terry Pullinger was presented with by Achim Dunnwald (certain intended changes desired by RMG going into the negotiations) that is of greatest concern to CWU membership (and non members of the union also) ...in short: what Pullinger might have been forced to concede.
For instance.
1. Reducing the sick pay benefits; long argued by myself that this is overdue for change.
RMG want to reduce it down as follows: first year of service - greater of statutory sick pay or 20%, year two - greater of SSP or 40%, year three - greater of SSP or 60%, year four - greater of SSP or 80%, year 5 - 100% pay.
Just one of many demands, from the board, that Pullinger has had to contend with; and trust me on this...there are many, many more also.
Whether Royal Mail has relented on the above, and the many other changes that the CWU have protested against, I do not know...because I have not been paying attention quite frankly.
But I have stated before...and repeat again now: not only do you have to get these new "agreements" passed by the posties...you have to have a "working majority" also.
Lots of turbulent water to come surging through under the old creaky bridge yet, methinks.
