Looks like a few trials are running that are looking at Covid and Long Covid .
Interesting to see that one of the BOD is running a key trial at Duke University .

I guess this guy Bastiaan Driehuys , who owns about 6% of the company is quite a key figure ?
Also interesting that Bracco Imaging Group own about 8% . They seem pretty big (3.5k employees worldwide and a turnover of about $1.4 billion ).
This is all new to me , so maybe some LTH's have ideas of where things may go in the future .

As well as the FDA decision , they seem to be involved in a lot of trials .

There machines are out and about already , so it may be that there is something successful going on in this area that has prompted a renewed interest in the share .

However , they released an RNS this morning answering ASX question as to what may be causing the SP to spike .
Firstly they explained that drill results for Carlow were just about to be released ( the main reason I guess ) , but also -

The Company announced on 7 July 2022 the start of a 7,500m to 10,000m drill programme across the Apollo and Atlas targets and the completely untested targets at Juno, Voyager, Enterprise East, Enterprise West and Vidiian. This 2022 programme is expected to continue through the remainder of the year and the Company will update the market as appropriate on progress, assays and key findings.

It makes them a good buyout target indeed with a Mcap of only £41m

ARV halt due to a bit of a leak perhaps on their other tenement at Greater Carlow .
Not halted here , so be interesting what SP does .

Nice to see this come back up , but not even close to the initial listing yet .
Normally you might see a slow climb back , but this one has been pretty dramatic .
I'd love to think they've spotted something mega from a drill on the Paterson , but it's still early days there .
But Newcrest are drilling closer and closer to their tenement , that's for sure .
At some point , the true size of the wider Havieron system will be found , and I wouldn't be surprised if some of it doesn't lie under Artemis's land .

Perhaps interest in our data has stoked demand from labs looking to see what we are onto .

I'll take that as a compliment Cov . Not that its really any of your business , but I enjoy following Faron . It hasn't made me much money yet . That came courtesy of GGP , EUA , NCYT and SNG back in 2020 . That enabled me from then on to be playing ( and recently losing) with the houses money so to speak .
Most of my other shares have guys or gals on there who do plenty of digging , so I tend to sit back and absorb what they find .
Not the case here , so I've taken it upon myself to be the eyes and ears on the ground .
Believe what you want . I wish they did pay me . If I worked for a shorting crew , I'd probably do ok as yes , I like to craft my writing .

Just no appetite out there for plonking cash into companies unless there is an imminent upcoming expected result .

As we aren't expected to talk to FDA until Q4 , it's just the hope of a Bexmab newsbomb that could blow the doors off this month , or a Traumakine strategic update .

This latest info relates to the effect steroids have on Type 1 interferons impact on producing enzymes ( mainly CD73) that help the body signal that a response is needed .
Farons research has obviously been focused on the intravenous delivery method , and I'm not sure if Synairgen have ever published any research into whether their inhaled route also aids the upregulation of CD73.

But either way - it's more evidence that IFNb1a benefits patients best if given early , and later use of steroids if needed also give a benefit .
The other way round certainly negates the effect of IFNb1a ( if given I/V) , and when used together (I/V) actually increases risk of mortality.

This is why I'm so keen to see the Activ2 results , where you'd think most patients would not have been given SOC steroids in advance .

He admits that in the near term , they have focused on BEX as it will give them the best return on investment - to help build up capability for future work .

Ok , here's my laymans understanding of what this tells us -
What have we learnt from this patent that we didn't already know ?

Well , up till now , we knew that Faron had discovered through post hoc analysis that glucocorticoids used together with IFNB1a actually raised mortality in ARDS patients .
So the assumption was don't use steroids in the setting where Type 1 interferons are being administered .

Hibsicus planned to test the theory that Type 1 IFN was better than steroids as SOC .
However , the use of steroids 'after' IFN wasn't ruled out .

This patent now takes that a step further by showing that by using BOTH , in the correct sequence , is actually the BEST way to treat ARDS patients , in order to either prevent or treat progression into serious conditions .

IFNb1 up regulates the enzyme CD73 - which is a crucial component to metabolising ATP to adenosine ( signalling the body to kick in and fight so to speak ) .
Steroids , although they don't affect the anti viral ability of IFNb1 , do inhibit the upregulation of CD73 - the key component needed to protect the organs and fire up the body's response.
Note the recent INFORAAA finding that in open aortic surgery , the upregulation of CD73 resulted in 100% survival , compared to 30-40% if not .

Now they have found that once the patient has been given IFNb1 , and CD73 upregulation is achieved and is doing it's job , then the sequential use of steroids acting as an antiinflammatory will actually give additional BENEFIT and protection .

I think the biggest roadblock for Faron and Traumakine was the global adoption of steroids when Covid arrived .
No way on earth was the medical community going to drop them .

This discovery - paves the way for a solution .
The understanding of how these two interact is key to offering a better alternative .
You don't have to drop steroids , just use them in the right order with IFNb1 .
That way - no harmful effects - and double win as both do what they are intended to do .

My feeling is that although Traumakine looked to be heading down the more specific area of trauma and open aortic surgery use , discoveries like this really bring it back into the mainstream ARDS spotlight .

After so many knockbacks , you can understand why Faron concentrated funding and efforts on Bex the last year or so . But tens of millions have been invested in Traumakine . The science was right . Covid should have been our moment . Steroids were our Achilles heal . A cynic would say that Big Pharma were all too aware of that .
As they say , revenge is a dish best served cold .

Possible additional help for building the case for SNG001 .
A patent landed today from Faron Pharmaceuticals - relating to the interference caused by glucocorticoids and the action of type 1 Interferons . It basically highlights how they prevent the full action of IFN B1a .
This relates to I/V delivery method , but I don't see why it wouldn't apply to the inhaled route also .

The patent is looking at the use of IFNB1a and then steroids . But highlights that their use together is a big no-no .

Perhaps this will add more wight to any platform trial that SNG gets on , that steroids will be kept away , or at least only given after .

Timing appears crucial in the window of treatment .
This patent favours early treatment by IFNB1a , then if necessary , steroids if serious further conditions arise .

I really would love to see both SNG001 and Traumakine on a platform trial , both being administered as first SOC , with steroids there as an after treatment only .

Reading this patent - it demonstrates very clear scientific proof that the automatic use of glucocorticoids initially for SIRS and ARDS is actually wrong , and harmful , as it prevents the healing process and signalling required to kick in .
This should be a real wake up call .

Looks like they have been busy preparing the IP around the use of Traumakine and steroids in treatment of patients where up-regulation of CD73 is concerned .

Faron announced in Feb 2022 - The INFORAAA study revealed that up-regulation of CD73 was associated with 100% survival .
This was great news - but no further news was forthcoming .

Clearly they have been also working hard behind the scenes to progress this .
"The study clearly showed that intravenous interferon beta-1a can induce CD73 when not used with steroids or in the presence of IFN beta neutralizing antibodies, and that patients who had high levels of CD73 survived this complicated and invasive surgery," said Professor Maarit Venermo, head of vascular surgery at Helsinki University Hospital, secretary general of the European Society of Vascular Surgery, and one of the coordinating investigators of the INFORAAA trial.

Faron's chief operating officer Juho Jalkanen added: "These results highlight, once again, the importance of CD73 in organ protection and the ability it has to benefit patients undergoing major surgery.

Does this hint as to where the focus of the next Traumakine trial is ?

The mode of action of Traumakine is, in addition to a profound antiviral effect, to upregulate the cell surface protein, Cluster of Differentiation 73 (CD73). SIRS may be caused by both infectious assaults such as COVID-19, influenza and other micro-organisms, as well as noninfectious insults, such as trauma, ischemia-reperfusion injury or burns. SIRS is characterised by early excessive inflammatory cytokine production, initiated by extracellular ATP, a potent mediator of inflammation and thrombosis, which can also lead to vascular dysfunction, capillary leak and thrombosis, ultimately leading to life-threatening multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS).

DofD is investigating MODS , but its all connected .

This important patent perhaps paves the way to the next phase of Traumakine trials , with now Faron having a patent for its use with the steroids being only used sequentially .

The present invention relates to sequential treatment of an agent capable of up-regulating CD73, such as type I interferons and exogenous glucocorticoids for organ protection in emergency diseases and conditions.

One thing any company has to make sure they have , is the intellectual property on their discoveries , before they are in a position to license or sell them.

Perhaps explains the delay in any activity to date .
