Mary , compassionate use was planned in the last Faron trial , but was never carried out as it was stopped short due to the steroid business.
They would have offered the drug to patients outside of the trial group , who had the unmet medical need .
It would be given free , but the benefit , other than helping patients , would be more results back faster leading to quicker marketing approval.
I feel we may be moving into a far bigger ' compassionate' use than was planned before , and this time it will be funded by others .
I think another compassionate use is where a drug that has FDA approval for say Malaria can be given to treat a different illness , on a doctors approval , if they think it will help .
In a few days I expect we will know a lot more

Trump got ahead of himself by the looks of its saying that a few drugs were approved .

One was a malaria drug , another some sort of blood plasma technique , still in trials , as are the vaccines .
But he did say that other antiviral medications would be fast tracked for approval ,
and White House has slashed red tape to get approvals for vaccines and other treatments.
Maybe this news created the whirlwind tick up today - as more people see what we have.

Oh well only managed 3rd spot in the top AIM share risers today .

When I wonder - why the delay ?? I guess that its some of the following...

Before the last 3 weeks - Faron's drug was just finally making some headway with FDA protocol- a hurdle that had to be completed before they could wrap up the funding package and announce it .
When asked about how quickly it could start - Markku said 'Fairly quickly' , which made me think they were still also finalising discussions on manufacturing perhaps.
In the world outside the Faron bubble - any google search would just show a failed phase 3 trial , and some guff about having another go because steroids masked the effectiveness of the drug .

However..
Inside the medical world , plenty of important people have been looking at every option to mitigate this crisis , and with an open chequebook .
They totally would understand the post hoc analysis and see the validity of the drug.
Funding is there from either third party or Govt in my opinion.
Manufacturing agreements of the drug has probably been one of the big delaying factors - who , how much and the scale.
FDA approval of some sort to get this out there pronto is a given in this situation.
But for this to be announced , they had better have everything set in stone , as once it goes on FDA website etc , it will be in demand EVERYWHERE .
Decisions on where this will be available will be political as well as medical unfortunately.

Oh well if there's no Olympics , at least we get a daily table to see how countries are doing ( not in the a great way though )

When this is all finally over , nobody is going to remember the names of the companies that made the ventilators , or saved thousands of lives through a breakthrough drug treatments .

But the shareholders in those companies certainly will .
