Roundtable Discussion; The Future of Mineral Sands. Watch the video here.
A few observations:
- Often to get to the truth you have to do a scratch test.
- Most investigations rely on crucial information being revealed by third parties.
- Often wrongdoing goes hand-in-hand with a culture of senior management and board member greed.
- Bear in mind most of the UK media is owned by a few billionaires intent on controlling the flow of information that serves their own interests rather than revealing what's really going on. It's mostly based on a 'vulture culture' entertainment only style of reporting.
- Most of the information on these files relates to lengthy records of minutes which even on speed-read takes much longer than "15 minutes to read" .... so with respect, I'm wary when the "cross referencing" claim is from a poster with 2 posts on record from an account they opened in 2016 and who failed to notice that the files mostly relate to minutes rather than emails.
- Over the years Barclays has had to pay huge amounts in fines for wrong doing that often only becomes apparent about after years of investigation.
Lastly, the poster didn't ask anyone to believe this information, it was a 'heads up' comment and I chose to view it that way because a) the information could have bearing on future share price direction and as a holder I need to know. b) think it's better to take a look rather than automatically assume the information is wrong or suggest the poster has an agenda.
Thank you for taking the time to post this information jefff and for persevering to give the correct link. As I haven't seen your name appear before let me also welcome you to this board. Usually find individuals who choose to refer to themselves using a lower case letter particularly interesting as they tend to be discerning in nature, and can sift the 'wheat from the chaff' .... apart from myself of course who has never owned a sieve ha, ha!!
As far as it's possible to tell and bearing in mind I feel I a need to choose my words carefully .... two appear to be of particular interest. Although there has recently been some media reporting of this issue, there wasn't much detail. This puts 'meat on the bones' so to speak.
Thanks again,
saurus
Morning all!
Any thoughts on share price direction?
Although I feel most politicians are a waste of time and usually more interested in service to self rather than service to others; I'm guessing if Joe Biden wins the US election which seems the most likely outcome given latest voting figures then we may see a positive move upwards for this share. More than anything though the market seeks certainty.
All the best,
saurus

We must all be eating the same breakfast cereal Ha, ha! I've also started taking an interest in Insurance Companies. Previously bought AV. when I thought they were undervalued several years ago and sold for a very good profit. It's share price has fallen a great deal since then though. Down a further 3% today.
There was a very good analyst on the old MF website who made a very good case for the shares being undervalued and was heavily criticised at the time but proved all his doubters wrong! He also held the shares so had skin in the game so to speak. Can't recall his name but it might be be in one of my old ledger books.
All the best,
saurus
Replied prior to the site going down earlier but my post seems to have disappeared in the blue yonder. Went something like this:
Morning Mr A,
Interesting article suggesting market declines are foreseeable long before they occur and major news events have less of an effect on share price direction than most investors believe is the case. It also suggests conditions are in place for a price drop of 10 to 15% in the coming weeks.
Best wishes,
saurus

Wish I'd gone with my gut feeling and sold yesterday morning at 10.59am when the price was £114.02. It's always the way. Bit of a gamble but thought it was worth the risk to hold a little longer. Despite this setback, Q3 results were very good so I plan on buying more if it continues falling but as always, timing is everything.

There simply isn't a proven vaccine on the horizon yet. What we have at the moment can best be described as stepping stones with 200 vaccines in various stages of research and development. Given that all research into producing new vaccines has a failure rate of around 90% that leaves us with roughly 10% still at various stages of development. It's a very long and arduous process as often research which initially looks promising and where huge amounts of resources have been allocated will at a later stage unfortunately fail. It's the nature of all scientific research and even if time is shaved off some of the usual stages, bear in mind it usually takes 10 to 15 years of research and development before a vaccine is made available to the general public.
These are some of the stages a vaccine will have gone through before use:
* Literature review: looking at what has been done before.
* Theoretical development or innovation: coming up with a new idea, or a variation on an existing idea.
* Laboratory testing and development. This involves 'in vitro' testing using individual cells and 'in vivo' testing, often using mice. The vaccine has to pass rigorous safety tests at this stage, and demonstrate that it works in animals.
* Phase I study – an initial trial involving a small group of adult participants (up to 100 people). This is carried out to make sure that the vaccine does not have major safety concerns in humans, and also to work out the most effective dose.
* Phase II study – a trial in a larger group of participants (several hundred people). Phase II trials check that the vaccine works consistently, and look at whether it generates an immune response. Researchers also start looking for potential side effects.
* Phase III study – a trial in a much larger group of people (usually several thousand). Phase III trials gather statistically significant data on the vaccine's safety and efficacy (how well it works). This means looking at whether the vaccine generates a level of immunity that would prevent disease, and provides evidence that the vaccine can actually reduce the number of cases. It also gives a better chance of identifying rarer side effects not seen in the phase II study.
* Licensing – expert review of all trial data by the UK government (through the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency - MHRA) or European regulator (European Medicines Agency - EMA). At this stage the regulators check that the trials show that the product meets the necessary efficacy and safety levels. They also make sure that, for most people, the product’s advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.
* Phase IV studies – post-marketing surveillance to monitor the effects of the vaccine after it has been used in the population. These may be requested by a regulatory body, or carried out by the pharmaceutical industry.

Bit of a difference here though. Bears and bulls represent price movement .... trolls on the other hand are by nature argumentative! Preferring to waste many hours posting repetitive nonsense designed to wind up other members with the intention of being disruptive. They lack empathy; often have poor social skills and therefore find it difficult to form meaningful relationships. They choose not to understand boundaries of acceptable behaviour and as a result tend to live on the edge of society.
Ultimately, trolls are fantasists believing themselves to hold superior knowledge or skills and will even go as far as nominating themselves for titles. They have no credibility whatsoever.
Hello gewillia,
Not a particular fan of advfn but it does offer private messaging. As PMorgan suggests, you and Sain could join under the same user names and then use its pm facility.

Hello and welcome to this board.
Sorry you were given a rough time by some low thinking individuals who don't usually post here. Please don't let that you off as we are a pleasant bunch. If you get a chance to scroll through the threads you'll find we share information, views and experiences in a friendly and positive way.
Good luck with your investments,
saurus
Name reminds me of my student days when a lad from Newcastle named our shared rented house 'Llamedos'.
Never tried spread betting, derivative or option trading. Like yourself, always meant to find out more and possibly have a go but never got round to it. Day trading just means purchasing and selling a security on the foreign exchange or stock market within a single trading day; with in this case shares that offer liquidity, mobility (price movement) and volatility. I manage a number of family accounts that are mostly in ISA's now and an account for a small animal charity that stepped up to the plate when a pony was abandoned and no one else would help. They're all currently with Interactive Investor. ISA's have no settlement period so any share broker would do and the tax wrapper is a bonus but not so good for investing in international shares as I'm finding out Sometimes, it's possible to trade the range several times in a day if you have the funds and time to watch the price closely. Don't always time it right as explained previously but that's always part of the risk with buying and selling.
Usually trade the range over longer periods but particularly cautious at the moment as concerned there could be another significant market fall sometime in the next 12 months. This is just my view and everyone has to invest/trade in a way that they're comfortable with.
Regarding honesty, of course it's important to take the claims of posters who always claim success with every share with a large bucketful but you get a feel for posters after a while as to whether they're being truthful. Fantasists and trolls often reveal far more about themselves in the way they post than they realise.
Good to hear you're back in profit. Hope this information helps but feel free to ask.
Best wishes,
saurus
Thank you karv, Rockon and Mr A for your thoughtful comments and support, it's much appreciated. Busy few days so my apologies for not replying sooner. Not helped by my accidentally switching my mouse off earlier after replying to Mr A on another thread.
Agree with all your comments. It's the nature of investing/trading not to always call it right when buying or timing when to sell. Ultimately, I still made a few thousand pounds profit to add to the pot so as you all rightly point out, a profit is a profit but even when losses are incurred, it's the risk we all take.
This board is shaping up nicely and it's good to be able to share thoughts and experiences and consider other view points.
Best wishes,
saurus
Good morning Mr Altruistic,
Hope you're well. Happy for any profit in these difficult times. Agree, it's not actually a profit until it's sold and don't dwell on what I could have made if only I'd held on longer especially, as the price could also have fallen.
Did some day trading with Barclays on Wednesday for a quick profit and again earlier this morning. Missed out yesterday as I was busy finishing off a report and helping out my daughter. Feels good to use the profit made to help kit out her first house.
Take care and all the best,
saurus
