Newmont have requested exclusivity in their bid for Newcrest, which Newcrest are considering as part of the proposed Indicative Proposal.

Would this mean that we may not get upgraded resource figures for their assets published later this week when the half year financial report is expected?

Dillon, normally they should be released, but there are exceptions. This take over situ@tion, which could affect GGP, MAY be one of those.

If they were negative, wouldn’t you want to release them now while attention is diverted elsewhere?

Seems strange they were supposed to be available late December or early January and it’s now Mid February!

Does anyone have any information on the timetable for such a bid as Newmonts bid for Newcrest?

Does Newcrest have to put up a defence document and when, or if recommending the bid, is there a set time when they have to do so?

I should imagine that last week and this weekend a lot of board meetings would have taken place and with no other bids coming forward as of yet, surely the Newcrest board will know what they want to do.

The shareholders of Newcrest have been told to do nothing as yet. How long are they supposed to wait?

My post did say at the beginning Newcrest and Telfer. I didn’t realise I would have to type them both in again lol!
At present with 30% of Havieron, Shaun had indicated it would be 3 years to pay back what we will borrow as our share of the project. I think it could be a longer payback for the sums required to buy out Havieron and Telfer.

I am expecting a share consolidation should we be looking for an equity raise for Newcrest’s share of Havieron and Telfer.

By how much. Well shoot me down, but it could be as much as 50 to 1.

This would reduce the shares in issue around 120 million. ( assuming Wyloo take up their warrants.

Each share would be worth approx £4.50, which would allow GGP to issue another 200 million shares for £900 million.

This together with debt would allow us to buy Newcrests share of Havieron with cash to complete the mine etc allowing us to become cash generative in a number of years.

Fanciful? Could be, but it illustrates what is needed to buy out Newcrests share, without having billions of shares in issue.

Can you imagine the speculation if they were to exercise the warrants now!

We could always swap Ernest Giles for the 70% of Havieron, should Newmont take over.

Thanks for the reply Culpepper. I agree with you and many of the regular posters here, that things are in a state of flux with so many possible outcomes. We need to carry on holding our share and await the outcome.
On a slightly different note, the $1.9 billion quoted for Telfer etc. Was that Us or Australian dollars?

Culpepper, I may have read this wrongly, but Newcrest are studying the proposal, so Newmont don’t have exclusivity as I see it. Glad to be corrected.

I’m wondering if the agreed delay in the Feasability study for Havieron, was agreed to allow NCM to concentrate on this bid.

Would Wyloo be big enough to put in a counter offer for Newcrest?

I’m not sure they would want all of the assets, but I am not sure Newmont will want all of them either. I can see Newmont ( if successful with their bid) selling some assets piecemeal.

By the way Newcrest was spun out of Newmont many years ago. It’s a funny old world!

Let’s not forget that the NCM/ GGP joint venture agreement has a clause whereby once a decision to mine is made, should one party dissent from proceeding, the other has the opportunity to buy them out.

I have to agree. The ASX are quite strict on companies and may want Newcrest to issue an rns equivalent statement.
Should there be any truth in the rumour, then an rns will also certainly help Newcrests SP.
