This is mysterious. We were told 50% complete in February. I wonder if the Feb presentation has been amended. There was a discussion on this board about it and indeed Carefree you joined in this discussion on 17th Feb (see your message to me).

For example Aulinspired on 17 Feb at 21.35 stated:

"From Feb 2025 MTL Presentation, which was published a few days ago and the latest video from South Africa last week:

1. Darren just confirmed in Video 50% complete but mentioned only 100k ozs production in 2027. I think that was just a rounding figure as he gave a quick response rather than a more detailed explanation in a short video session."

I have not been back and checked the video but I do not recall that figure being in the Feb presentation.

This is a loose end that it worth pulling on. Communications have been poor over Dupax, and the presentation of drilling results. I hope this old lady is getting confused.

Good to hear the confidence that first gold pour will be December. Has that slipped a little from November?

It says project construction 40% complete. What was the 50% figure we were given a month ago?

Simms - with accounting like that, just relieved you are not running MTL

I find it very difficult to see what shape a deal could have other than the US essentially backing off in the light of a nuclear deal - i.e. back to where we were before Trump became president. Israel will hate that. Any other deal Iran would hate. It would be a real TACO.

Any ideas?

Interestingly Robin Brooks (head of Fx at Goldman) is saying with current supplies of oil (some Saudi oil via Red Sea and Iranian oil getting through) the oil price will not get to $150.

I think the choice is either sell at these depressed prices and hope you can catch the rebound - thereby minimising your short term risk. Or sit this out until we have greater clarity politically and are going into production. The middle ground of checking the charts all the time and panicking every time we have another 5% drop is not an advisable strategy.

I have been critical of DB’s comms over Dupax but if I was in his shoes I would not be making any announcements at the moment

I agree with Lee that with gold above 4000 the investment case remains strong. Hopefully oil supply will not become so restricted that machines cannot operate. That would seem unlikely - but there again everything that is happening would have seemed unlikely a few years ago.

So a number of posters used to comment that share price rises were due to a mysterious buyer ( Simms this was your hypothesis) and others explained share price drops by reference to a persistent seller. Just curious to know whether people are still supporting this hypothesis or have we moved on?

I have thought long and hard about significantly reducing my shareholding (8m shares) but am sticking with MTL for now . My personal view is that Dupax could have been much better handled from the perspective of communication: it was talked up too much at the outset and then allowed to fizzle such that many of us worked out it was a dud before the company said anything. But that is only a naivety I think. The fact Dupax failed was just one of those things and does not of itself reflect poorly

La India still looks as if it is an outstanding asset. The political risk is tolerable. The economics are great. It looks as if gold is going to stay above £4500 an ounce. DB and his team have done a great job at Runruno and there is every expectation they will execute here. If they do the share price should go up.

I am probably making that mistake of showing fidelity to a project for emotional reasons- I have been Invested in Condor for more than 10 years and hate to duck out. The share price of MTL since July has been hugely disappointing but i am expecting that this is our low point and by October things will look very different

So Lee there is an interesting editorial analysis from the Economist channel yesterday. They are much more pessimistic than you. You might be interested

More seriously if Hormuz remains closed for another month we could see economic collapse. What that will mean in the short term for Gold and MTL is anyone’s guess. Gold may be liquidated. Mining operations may be suspended. Or as you suggest gold may go to the moon. Nobody knows

Lee I think the risk is whether there will be sufficient oil available at all for mining operations later in the year. That may not be a large risk - I do not know - but I agree a price increase is not necessarily a threat. Does anyone have a figure for how many barrels are required to produce an ounce of gold?

Smooth brain - you are confusing me with someone else. Stability in Nicaragua has not been a concern of mine.
