Sound advice from Alas_Smith there. The only thing I can add is to recommend IG as a trading platform but only if you intend to trade 3 times a month or more in which case the charges are only £3 per trade. The platform is a bit of a learning curve to get used to but I find it excellent. Also with parcels of shares circa £1000, you rather need to minimise costs. For this reason I would advocate looking at shares where no stampduty is paid, many shares on AIM are like this but also IAG and PLUS500 for example.
Run your profits but cut your losses earler...wise words and has been the most difficult advice for me to follow even after 40 years experience. I am a day trader and I am watching the market and my investments all day long. I use automatic alerts to tell me about significant changes in a share price...this enables me to a have a real life as well! By such monitoring it is possible to trade the changes that happen through the day, for me, this is where I find the most profit.

Have bought some ASC at 4924. Missed a selling chance on the PLUS spike to 1453 earlier, an alert went off but by the time I got off the sofa and tried for a quote, it was all over. Interesting that my portfolio value is 0.8% higher than it was last Friday afternoon.

V...Thanks for that target variation, I rather like the idea and will give it further thought. I can see how it could work. The only thing that concerns me is that I may start selling too early, taking smaller profits in my haste...heck, I am already doing that. The wine reward. I especially like.
I am trying visualise a sort of oversampling approach where if I sell something, I continue to monitor it and get demerits if I could have done better by waiting, that way I am incentivised to get it right. No, that way lies madness. I can't take any more madness right now.

Bought CINE back at 71.8 and sold at 75.4 (another perfect high today) for a 4.3% profit. Now at 125% of target, might have tomorrow off. Hope others are doing well. Haven't heard much from T lately...perhaps he is brushing up his Spanish?

m...brilliant, a Red Braces wine tasting service. The "normal" Riojas we get from Lidls is £5 and £6 and I like them both. Sold IAG at 153.8, got right at the peak, pleased with that...also takes me over my target for the week. Think I will open some Merlot tonight. Incidently, this weekend, Fri, Sat, Sun, Lidl are selling a Rioja reduced at £3.29. At that price it can't be good, can it?

m....just been reading GSK results, including future dividend news. I assume you have bought some. Seems like a good idea, they are at a 2 or 3 year low I think. I might be joining you in them for a medium term bet. Have a sneaking feeling that they may want to grow by acquisition and I seem to have shares in several posible targets. uuummmmm

m...Thanks for your comparison between MMs. I too suffered from the IG (and other) "crash" in the spring and had to fight for compensation. One thing I must mention about IG is that the mobile APP seems to work slightly differently from the laptop/website (no doubt out of synch versions) and I don't have any success seting a limit trade within the spread like I can and on the laptop. I am running 2 ISAs so one on laptop, the other on phone is how I usually operate.
I also have our joint normal trading account on ii (the old TDWaterhouse). This is a sort of old fashioned platform, charges £10 a quarter plus £8 a trade with the first one and a half free per month. I kind of like it, albeit clunky, it handles corporate actions very well and did not crash last spring when AJBell, HL and IG did due to heavy use.

C...GSK sort of shot themselves in the foot for selling the vaccine at cost price. A good alturistic thing to do but they have been shouting about it lately and that may spook some shareholders.

R...blooming well done on your price for selling MCRO.I have noticed that you often get better prices than me, I need to sharpen my act. I was guided by the stochastic suggesting oversold, yes the ema8 was for holding on but I employed the caveat that if the price exceeds the ema8 line by "a lot" then a downturn is likely. Ha, retrospective explanation for selling too early. Doh! But profit was made.

I have to recommend IG again, do only 3 trades in a month and it's only £3 a trade and there are no regular fees.

V (again)...don't be afraid to buy again after selling even if it is for the same price (or more!) if one's sentiment has changed towards that share. I know it feels wrong but I do it sometimes.

Sold MCRO so for those SadAct weekly target watchers, I am at 93%

T...what's your view on MCRO right now. I am in a bit of profit there and don't want to lose it!
