Actually pleased you cancelled your request for info on a French company. While yes I can sort of speak French conversationally, technical matters are almost yet another language. Athough I can handle french technical matters concerning cars and house planning and building, my exposure to financial matters is limited to some tax and bank stuff. Even these were complicated to translate, even getting a google translation usually misses the essence and certainly the sublety of certain texts. What I can tell you about company employment in France is that it couldn't be more different from UK with companies (above about 4? employees) having to lodge money with the government which offsets "unemployment benefit" if and when an employee becomes redundant or the firm goes broke. Also employment law seems more in favour of companies than our system, I know of people getting the sack a day before a bank holiday then re-employed immediately after the bank holiday!
Still invested in HUR? Of course I was, my major investing fault is a reluctance to sell....ha, I wait until takeovers or delisting.

Apologies for absence.
2 bits of good news, filed my (and partner's) 20-21 tax return. I left it rather late this time, I was even seen to panic a bit. Ha. Also sold my HUR at about 7% profit although some of them I have had for more than a year. That was my first trade this year.
V....I completely echo your reasons for taking investing into your own hands.

o...9.9% gain on the Stocko Challenge? That's good in my book, well done. You mentioned "speculate to accumulate". My ****poor performance this year is more speculate to dissipate. I really have to review my approach next year. I have started looking around, nearly bought SAGA just below 250 before Christmas but lacked conviction, story of my recent life, ha.

Your ambition to beat the market (as defined by FTSE100?) is a worthy one. This time last year FTSE was about 6500, now it's about 7500 roughly 15% gain. I would be delighted with that in place of my loss! Last year I made 50.3%, this year....I'm scared to work out the figure! I certainly took my eye off the ball this year. Good luck for 2022.

It is coming up to that time of year when I calculate losses (I know I haven't made a gain)..I am reluctant to look at the actual figures…it would give me indigestion.
Lately several of my holdings have had big gains so I want to bask in that warm glow even though it hasn’t made much impact on my overall position. For various reasons I haven’t made many trades these last 8 months. Blimey, not so long ago I was “bragging” about doing 20 and 30 trades a day sometimes. I think those days are over for me I think. I think I have only done 40 or 50 trades since April. (perhaps I need more Rioja!)
This has been an extraordinary year or two but I remain convinced that, in times to come, it will be a mere blip. Ha, I think I am turning into a long term investor.
Anyhow, I am delighted that the RBG is going well, stronger than ever I think. I will try to join in more next year.

Volvo Amazon Report. This last summer I tried to get the Amazon along to my village fete where they show a couple of dozen local vintage cars. It hadn’t run for about 5 years, I bought a new battery, repaired 2 leaky tyre valves and took it on a 2 mile loop tour of my village. One of the front disc brake calipers (1966 car with servo disc brakes…luxury) was seized but suddenly freed itself and I thought it would be OK for the fete. Washed the car etc but then it wouldn’t start 2 days later which I traced to a stuck float (or needle and seat valve) in the Strombereg carb float chamber. Fast forward to now and I still haven’t fixed this problem. I just cannot get the float chamber open and fear damaging it. Yes I have tried penetrating oil and heating the float chamber and cooling the body of the carb without luck. I have even tried a hammer, might try a much bigger hammer.

Citroen Traction Report… When I said “local” restorer, I meant local in Devon whist I was in France. It had begun to deteriorate into a Fred Flintstone car with the road visible through the rear floor so I didn’t carry passengers these last few years. So that and the sills are all nicely restored now. It turned out that the boot floor also needed welding work so “Lee” went ahead and fixed that too. The second visit to Lee fitted the new guttering and a patch repair to the bootlid . Each of these repairs have been sprayed black (2 pack) but the car now looks rather patchy so it is crying out for a respray. Thing is, all 4 doors need some repairs first with rust showing through along the bottom edges. A few weeks back I had an incident with the starter motor which ran on its own overnight until the battery was completely flat. This has prompted me to fit a solenoid (I’ve already done that) and change the ignition switch (got the new one, will fit it soon). Originally, it had a pull cable on the dashboard which operated a mechanical contactor actually mounted on the starter. (The spring inside the contactor failed and ran the starter till the battery gave out. Interestingly, the battery recovered after a day’s recharge..incredible, that battery is 24 years old and still going strong.)

T...wine drinking dropped off? Yes, sort of felt bored with it, even now only resuming in moderation as it's the holiday season.

I didn't sell the SNG bought today but I am not too concerned to be overweight in them at the moment.
Another share that I am overweight in is HUR. I have a slight profit there, my most recent tranche being bought at 4p.
The price seems to be quite volatile so I may start trying to day trade them. The spread always appears wide which puts me off but hey, they are a non-stampy so just maybe I can squeeze a small profit and do it often.
This year I haven't got any holdings in the category most likely to gain from a santa rally, all my hopes there seem to be with ASC. Previously I held MRW but sadly I didn't benefit from their takeover. Doh.

Yes I am needing to get back to trading to try and make some money. I feel like I have had 7 or 8 months off.
Had some heavy expenses with my old Citroen Traction, while I was in France, I had a local restorer repair the floor and sills, needless to say he found more rot underneath than you can shake a stick at. He did a superb job although the price was about 30% more than I was expecting, ouch. Whilst in France I bought new repair guttering channels as theses needed doing too. I bought them while I was in France to avoid importing them direct to UK with attendant costs because I am a cheapskate. This week my restorer finished fitting them. I now have to decide whether to have the 4 doors repaired (all have rust coming through quite badly near the bottom edge...irritating as I repaired them myself 25 years ago!). Then I guess it will need a respray. Oh la la.
I have further stories of work on the Citroen (and the Amazon) if anyone shows interest.

As hoped, I bought back into SNG at 207.4 about an hour ago. Maybe a touch high. Was offered them at 206 something yesterday near the close but as always I got greedy and wanted <205p. Ho hum.

Well the SNG I sold yesterday at 208.6p (above their day maximum!) I managed to buy back at 206.8 this morning then sold again gradually in dribs and drabs (several partial fills on a Limit sale, last one at 16.25?) at 210.6p.... again above their day maximum. Only 1.8% profit this time but "a profit is a profit".
I still feel bullish about SNG so will buy in again tomorrow on slight early weakness I hope.
Needless to say that these profits are peanuts compared to the whole nuts I am losing elsewhere, CINE for example.
Truly, I must be completely nuts.

V... Yes I still have a shed load of ARB. Can't believe that they didn't sparkle with the last few months rise in BTC. I guess it proves they were overvalued to start with?

I have actually done a trade! Shock horror. Bought extra SNG the other day and have sold for a 4.5% profit.
I sold them on a Limit sell order which filled in dribs and drabs over a two hour period.
Have still got some SNG that I bought when God was a boy but I am holding out for the next surge.

I am back in England and hope to start contributing again soon. I have been occasionally dipping in to your chat but felt too out of touch to make useful comments.
I have been rather busy with other stuff but hope that should all be over soon. Then I can concentrate on the markets. I have only traded half a dozen times in the last few months.

Sorry I've been so quiet lately, got so much going on and seems like so little time to do it all. Have been making a few Bob on ARB ...done about 6 trades and managed a 4%, 2% and 9% profit but must stress that I've been lucky. Also, I've only been risking about 40% of my holding.
