I feel more positive Tacuma. I think the planning committee will be well aware they are on very thin ice. The Lib/Dems (Surrey Opposition Forum) can only lead the Tories around by their dicks for so long, and I think they have gone as far as they dare.

Can't they dual track - answer the questions before the next meeting and appeal against non-determination? I assume the 8 week rule applies?

Reasons given at the meeting for deferral: There is insufficient information on the extent of the area to be covered by the TMP (from the dedicated holding area to the site). Want confirmation the service station are prepared to create a dedicated area for vehicles to be held on the site beyond any normal time limit. How will banksmen deal with late running lorries arriving at the site. Request for engagement with relevant parties. I wonder if this is what remains after the legal team have gone through it. There is nothing to say that if all these questions are answered, they won't come up with a load more questions next time. Mind you, their legal person said that Europa could appeal at this stage on the grounds of non-determination. A further delay would surely mean that, in the words of Councillor Mallett, they would simply be slaughtered. Councillor Taylor said that to defer is quite clearly crossing the lines of their responsibilities, and to say the Planning Inspectorate at appeal didn't understand the situation is cloud cuckoo land.

Tacuma, the planning officer said that the planning inspectorate, at the time of the appeal, would allow planning even if it were to be considered as being a major project.

I assume by the lack of comment, investors can't be arsed to do something concrete to protect their investments. The typical response is 'I'm out', taking the loss on the chin. Why not put up a fight?

I hadn't thought about the drilling window. You are right. Indeed there should be some sort of organised representative shareholder group, involved in onshore UK oil and gas production. It is an easily understandable industry, and lets face it, large numbers of shareholders move from ANGS, to EOG, to UKOG, to ALBA to UJO..DOR etc. At the moment we are getting screwed by the NIMBY/CRUSTY organisations, who are bullying the system. Perhaps there is an opportunity to fight back? Would the companies give a group adequate backing?

Thanks Jus, but why a year? Wressle has been delayed by 6 months as a result of appealing. Threats are being made. The Unite Union appear to actively promote threats to companies involved in, or supporting oil production in this country. If there was a movement by supporters of the industry, either shareholders or simply people who want our country to be able to be more self sufficient in an ever changing world, I would happily be on the front line. But how many would join me? Crusties win again, while we continue to wait and lose our hard earned savings.

You are right Jus. But. The planning committee had 4 things to decide upon at yesterday's meeting. What they have now asked for answers to, is in my opinion unrelated to the previous 4. So this is a 5th. What is to stop a 6th at the next meeting? Or perhaps a 7th, 8th and 9th? I see no option but to appeal. If this goes to the planning inspectorate on appeal, they surely will see that the planning committee have over-stretched their responsibilities, and Europa will win, piece of ****. Bring this to an end and get drilling.

Oily, I have to disagree with you. They have farmed out one key Irish licence, and can't be held responsible for Wressle failure nor PVR's recent drill. Had they been different, you'd be laughing all the way to the bank by now.

No doubt the partners will meet tomorrow to work out a plan going forward. My preferred option would be appeal and bring this fiasco to a conclusion. Otherwise they'll continue to kick it into the long grass, whatever Hugh and the team do. RNS with plan Friday?

The fact the chairman didn't know proved that not even he had read the officer's report properly. I don't think many of them had bothered to read it at all!

Because ours was dealt with under section 8, which meant no comments other than from the committee should be allowed, although one opposer was allowed to be heard.

We all have things on our doorsteps we don't particularly want. Busy roads, railway lines, electricity pylons etc., but most of us accept it as what is necessary to have a competitive economy for the benefit of the whole country. Sadly, Leith Hill seems to have more than it's fair share of selfish residents. 4 weeks of minor inconvenience, if there is any inconvenience at all, is surely not worth the fanatical response of the LHAG. They have obviously never experienced anything in their lives that causes real worry, unless they've forgotten what it's like.
