Petroleum v Hydrogen27 Feb 2020 13:36
I appreciate that it has been discussed previously, but some may find the following of interest.
Petroleum being transported has very strict safeguarding rules, especially in developed countries, but even in 3rd world countries explosions/fires are rare (per thousand journeys).
I was Hazchem trained in the early eighties and saw examples of some of these transport disasters.
In one such incident, a film crew were over 300 meters from a petroleum fire on a train line when it exploded, the film suddenly went dark as all of the film crew and the equipment evaporated in a heat flash.
Yes accidents will always happen, but those who state that hydrogen is more dangerous than petroleum are wrong, both have their unique characters/problems.
Wont post a link, but if you put 'world worse petroleum fires blemy' into google and see some images, it shows how dangerous transport/storage can be. But I repeat, these disasters are very very rare and I am certain that transport/use of hydrogen will be no more dangerous than those fuels presently used worldwide.
