sidi good evening, I cant comment on that tonight, as I'm in positive thinking mode lol, I don't know about you, but I don't like selling anything off at a loss, as long as I can see there's a hope of recovery, and it is providing some income in the meantime
so lets hope it can get past that 140 blockade some time soon

Cheers Dan, i asked for peoples motives with this one, and you have given me yours, and you may well be right, and i hope you are, don't think anyone would advise anyone what to invest in, everyone has to make their own choices there, but i can tell you, this one is lagging behind, I do listen to other peoples views, but i don't really need to, i only need to log in to my account and see the figures vod, minus 34%, not convinced this is going to turn around anytime soon, but would be very happy to find I'm wrong

sidi Re: thinking of abandoning ship, I would like to, I only have 2 bad shares at the moment, which I think are going to take a long time to recover, and vod is one of them, but I don't see any point in selling up at a loss, while I can recoup some of the losses by accumulating dividend, would like to at least minimise the losses as much as I can, so hoping it does make some gains in the near future, fortunately I have only put 5% of portfolio in here, and knowing the situation the company is in would be very reluctant to invest any more, this is why I'm interested in peoples motives for doing so , but whatever they are, I hope they do well

Dan it's just a genuine question mate, and not directed just at you, my point is knowing the company is struggling to compete in a competitive market, also unable to cover the dividend, struggling to manage its debt is it worth the risk investing in this company, when there are possibly safer company's with more possible gains, yes things may get better and hopefully it will, but just how long will it take for this company take to recover ???

One thing I cant understand though guys, you know how much debt vod is in, and paying a dividend they can't cover, yet knowing all this, you still keep adding here, maybe you could explain your motives for this ???, personally having seen this drop from my average of 197p, with little hope of it getting back to 200p anytime soon, I feel caught in a trap here at the moment

lordloadsoflolly, Thanks for your reply, a lot of good general advice there i think, most people i speak to seem to have a different strategy, and as long as its working that's great, i agree about overweight with Lloyds, but had the opportunity of topping up at the bottom prices during this Pandemic, and hopefully will get some rewards from that, do normally try not to exceed 5 % on individual shares, and also still have 8 varied funds, and will probably increase my holdings with smt, once i can see its turned a corner, would prefer to buy on the way up, rather on the way down

Well we have finally found out why the vod share price is down, because it's being Led by the nose by the woke brigade and not advertising on GB news, plus Dan doesn't have a phone contract with vod, (yea right) personally, I would prefer to listen to mole-man, although he can be a bit over pessimistic on times, agree its not going to jump back to £2, but hopefully it will make gradual gains, a quote from another board ( there are two types of investors, those who don't know, and those who don't know they don't know

I do get what your saying guys, and nobody knows if the next two years will be good ones or bad ones, a lot is about timing, and sometimes you need a bit of good luck on your side as well, the last year was beyond expectations for you guys, ideal for someone wanting long term investment, i do agree, but I'm not in that position right now, there are some advantages with a high dividend stocks as well, because the ups and downs don't matter so much, if you're collecting the dividends, but i do need some growth stocks as well, i only have 5% of portfolo here, so not too much of a gamble i think

Dan, your wasting your time there mate, your right Mikey doesn't reply, complete sea of red for me today, but chin-up , a lot will use this for buying at a discount, hopefully things will improve next week

Alas smith Re: coming retirement, i currently have 25% funds, 25% in lloyds, and the rest in dividend shares, was able to top up on lloyds and legal and general and a few other shares when the priced had bottomed out, by selling off some of my worst performing funds, trying to build up pension pot, then hopefully will be into mostly dividend shares with an average yield of 6%, i understand what posters are saying about long term benefits, but smt for me will have to be short term 1 or 2 years
