Please be aware that the BMA has absolutely nothing to do with the training of doctors or the numbers of medical students/doctors in training. That is entirely the responsibility of the Government. There never has been any pressure from the BMA to cap numbers, because the only people who seem to understand that the baby boom generation is killing us all in the NHS now and this will only get worse, are the doctors. We need MORE doctors....yesterday.
The '30%' pay rise under Labour you refer to was in 2004, was a catch up after YEARS of subinflation pay rises to stop GPs leaving the profession, and carried with it a significant increase in workload. Its is considerably more complex than can be distilled down into a Daily Mail style soundbite.
Trust me. I'm a senior doctor and have a regional representative role. This is what I eat, sleep and breathe 70+ hours per week.
