RE: EU Strategic Project List25 Mar 2025 11:06
For anyone who didn't see my post on 20/03/25, this may be more relevant now:
"The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) generally focuses on supporting projects in developing countries. However, it can also support projects in certain high-income countries, like Greenland, if the project advances U.S. strategic interests.
Greenland holds strategic importance due to its Arctic location, and the U.S. has shown increasing interest in supporting economic development there. While Greenland is not a traditional recipient of development finance, the DFC has the flexibility to operate in places that align with U.S. foreign policy goals, especially in areas related to energy, infrastructure, and critical minerals.
Hopefully, GROC will receive Strategic Project Status, but if not, could DFC funding be provided? Furthermore, with increased tensions between the US and EU, could the US seek to secure a resource in the EU's back yard?"
The US administration might see this as an opportunity to demonstrate they will be prepared to 'support and develop' Greenland's resources whereas the EU is not. The potential outlay to complete the DFS will be relatively modest as far as the DFC is concerned.
