"Regulator I have to agree , rather embarrassing backfire today . I just hope there is more structured PR and networking resulting in contracts happening behind closed doors."
I think the key issue is that this mask is competing in a very crowded market (there are lots of Type IIR masks) and its USP (the virucidal aspects) aren't really a USP, as there are other virucidal masks out there. What teh company needs to concentrate on is the timeframe that the virucidal effect lasts - which is it's real USP, as it longer than the other virucidal masks out there.
But they have to acknowledge the price is an issue that will limit its use in health and social care organisations where, irrespective of how long the virucidal action lasts, masks have to be changed multiple times a day and having something that lasts for 7 hours but is 10+ times more expensive than your current mask is not really a strong selling point.
There are other lucrative markets though. Places and situations where wearing a single mask for long periods or the whole day is appropriate... e.g. aviation/transport, some aspects of retail, education and many workplaces. That's where the company needs to focus on selling.
Masks will be with us for the medium to long term. There are good possibilities out there but the company needs to be realistic about its focus. If it does, I look forward to further very nice profits!
