Even if there are "shed loads" and the powers that be consider a decent rise in dividend would be in order, believing shareholders have had a pretty torrid time. They still have to meet the demands of the employees. An aggressive increase in dividend may well create higher wage demands for 2020. It is only my guess but I am pricing in approx 17p for the next dividend.

Not being a "postie" I have no clue as to letter volume but can well imagine it's difficult to make a profit in the outlying areas. Parcels though another matter.

Royal Mail’s growth prospects are relatively mixed in my view. In the UK, it continues to experience difficulties in its letters division, while its parcels segment could generate some growth over the medium term. Internationally, though, it is a different story. Its GLS division has the potential to report double-digit growth over the medium term in my view after a strong recent performance. This could drive Royal Mail’s profitability higher and lead to a higher dividend.

Don't think there's a right or wrong because it depends on circumstances. There are so many reasons to buy shares. Those that invest for a bit of fun and others that rely on the dividends etc. Who can say at this stage whether you might have been better waiting. Only time can tell but you have your profit and that's what matters.

Re: 6?. I am of the same mind. Why assume the SP is running out of steam. IMHO the current rise is merely being delayed while waiting for a powerful report and good dividend announcement. If some want to lock in profit fair enough but I would be wary so close to these announcements. Of course we know there are sometimes drops on results but usually due to selective use of content which are the excuse for negativity. I can see plenty of positives that could be included in the report. Negatives not so much. We shall see in under two weeks.
