I was wondering if it was something to do with derivitives when I saw mention. Thought they maybe bought and sliced up to sell rather than lent out ones they held for others.

Still confused though. Shouldn't that show up on the shorts (being over 0.5%)?

I note blackrock closed their remaining tiny drop going by todays 8.3.

Note that Barclays are short. And am I reading right? They own 2.5% but are short 2.6? I thought that makes it a naked short and against the rules?

I did spot that but it is (at least on paper) different parts of JP. I did also spot that the bit doing the advising reduced their target from 2.37 to 2.17 around the time of the latest offer. Were they advising a sell...so an American firm was telling a Uk firm to accept a low offer from am American firm....that might imply something lol

That always happens with larger trades. Set a price instead of just buying

Any thoughts on what size of return an asset manager such as Apollo would be looking for? Do they go after companies they think are 5, 10, 20, 50 or even 100% upside?. So do they think the real value is 240, 250, 270, 350, 460? More?

The markets can fancy what they want.
Fact remqins that this is worth more than 230 and some are willing to pay that so must believe it is worth more.....so this share is undervalued and a steal. In time, even without a takeover, it will eventually get back to where it belongs.

Don't be too hard on him as he is just stating facts as he sees them. And I had hoped that they would pick work up faster, but they haven't and they reaply need that now.
I suspect shorts are closing as their is still a chance that 1.5billion one could land with one or two others behind and it would be up and away again. Which is partly why I stillhave a small holding...but O took the rest out and shifted across to Wood with their newly improved books and yesterdays (woohoo) news.

They are dated 21st!!! (Insider!) And 22nd and account for over 13% of this company....far more than has been traded recently!

Precisely. My point is they looked, saw what it was worth and thought a healthy profit for them at 230, so is worth more. Even if they come out and say not for us above this. I'd be tempted to buy the dip if it drops again. Not sell in panic on way down. You could try to averqge down and sell, but if I do, I'm only gambling a small bit as I don't want to miss any big ticks up as the shorts try to escape.
Pearsons were offered 870 when trading in high 700s. Now over 900.
This puts a firm marker in sand for true value, which is clearly a chunk above 230! Where and how long to get there....time will tell.

Looking into Apollo they have form.
This could just be a publicity stunt to push the price up to more realistic levels.
Look at Pearsons last year and their performance since. Share is trqding higher than the offer price today even though it dipped on news of the rejection but recovered as presumably it was worth the price and Apollo saw a profit from 230 so....
Only question is how greedy you are and how many risks you want to take.
Holding for now but may take some out to safety as it approaches that bid price....at what price? I dunno.
Maybe they are in cahoots with Blackrock who just closed their short here.

The trade prices imply that they were through the day to me. So if they were shorters, they got wind before news broke. And presumably any remaining shorts will have to dash if they haven't already......JP especially, who increased at a pretty low price from memory.

I said it the other day. That backlog and order book would have to be improved otherwise the buyers would just be buying debt and employees that need work. So unless someone REALLY needs people or fancies paying for debt....

Just look at the bond market for the Petrofac ones. Now trading at 60p to the original £1. Granted they get interest along the way but it seems the peeps buying those are not too confident in seeing their cash back in 2026.

But what's up with all those chunky trades being logged after hours? You normally see a few but there are heaps today which has raised my eyebrows. Is there some legitimate reason or is this some kind of manipulation. E.g. buy the shares off book and log after announced so no accusations of insider trading?

It is neither. It is the uncrossing trade UT. It is the auction at the end of the day. The price determined by where the maximum number of trades occur based on all the bids. So for every buy, there was a sell and it means very little. It is higher than the ticker price was, implying more people were willing to pay more.

I reckon it will be a bit sideways for next month or so. Maybe a pop around ISA allowance renewal date as it did last year. Then we need a couple of quarters of solid results with no bad news to get this properly moving North.

Question. I seem to remember the ex-CEO and one of main shareholders put his shares up against a loan for his new business.
So does that bank now basically own this? Is that why we have had some increase in Spanish holdings?

What happens to that loan? Is it safe and he escapes with a new company, or does his new venture get handed to the lender?

Spot on. I am glad I took my original stake out when it got back above my buy-in and with one lucky trade when I got cold feet early on. Left in my profit which I fear is at risk. They have picked up some work but my gut says not enough.
I also doubt many would want to effictively bail them out and buy a load of debt on the hope they get a backlog down the line. It must be other way around or a buy out is unlikely I suspect!
My move to wood has left me similarly down but they are in a much lower risk spot and I think will fly later in year and if they can deliver this and next year to current analyst consensus.

A lot of these sites automatically pull through numbers and calcs. Looks to me like it is picking up the change due to an already completed asset sale
