Major European stocks made gains in the premarket trade on Monday as the continent continued to struggle with the coronavirus pandemic. While Austria implemented tightened restriction measures, France saw near-record 900 coronavirus-related deaths on Friday. Meanwhile, a report revealed a coronavirus vaccine developed by China has around 90% effectiveness similar to the one created by Pfizer Inc.
The weekend was also marked by statements from French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire, who asserted the European Union would find a solution with the United States over subsidies to Airbus and Boeing, and Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney, who confirmed that the Brexit deal is still reachable.
The DAX soared 1.00% or 128 points at 8:03 am CET, while the FTSE 100 rose 0.92%. A minute later, the CAC 40 advanced 1.13%. The euro gained 0.14% against the dollar to sell for $1.18492, while the pound traded 0.08% higher to go for $1.32060.
