Having said that, the important conversations are the ones that take place between Scancell and the big pharmas.

On the PR front, we can thank David Evans for the Sky news piece. Again we don't know what effect this has has on Scancell's chances of SN11 funding. I would imagine that the committees involved are unlikely to act on a media report. But they may act on the growing evidence of TCells' role in fighting the virus.

However, it was nice to see Lindy in bullish mood telling us that the TCells were killing the virus cells.

Well, actually I don't think it should do.

It occurs to me that when you look at one of Lindy's papers, you see loads of references to other related articles.
This depth of research in other groups' work is so important in how Lindy conducts her own research.

In contrast, this person's work, though thought provoking gives the impression that TCells are important but gives no pointers as to how to harness their power. It takes a scientist of Lindy's calibre to do that.

We know that Lindy is keen on Liposomes as nano-particles for drug delivery. Perhaps she is planning something similar to the delivery system as described in the following article:

Could it be they are talking about peptides to add to the surface of the nanoparticle to improve delivery to the target i.e the Dendritic Cell in this case?

Yes they have.
I'm guessing that they are using an iterative approach between vaccine design and testing until they get to a stage where they feel confident about publishing data.

So for Scancell to get funding it appears they need to produce some animal data first and show they stick out from the pack.
This is probably different to the criteria used for Oxford and Imperial.

How far Lindy is away from providing this data is anyone's guess.

The cytokine storm seems very much a last resort from the immune system.
It's all about timing in Lindy's approach . As soon as a virus cell appears, it is attacked. This is because the memory TCells quickly become effector TCells when the target appears.

It's very much what Prof Patel said in the Sky News video.

The virus being "non self" should make the chances of a successful TCell attack more likely when compared to a cancer vaccine which is trying the same against a target that the immune system perceives as "self".

Perhaps Scancell should look to Sweden for funding.
They certainly seem to value Lindy's contributions in the field of cancer vaccines.

This could possibly be dealt with better using the Covidity approach.

a) Covidity targets the N protein which Lindy's team believe to be a constant in all Coronaviruses

b) As Covid19 mutates it possibly presents different targets on the Spike. As soon as these are identified, they can be added to the DNA plasmid that is Covidity. Of course, they would need to go through trials.

It may be that Lindy is aware of some of the known mutations and is including targets for these. Who knows?
I would imagine this is a similar problem to tackling flu mutations, albeit with a totally different approach (that of TCells).

I quite like Professor Shattock, he answered the questions very honestly and did not make any guesses about the chances of success.

Questions still remain however:

1) Will neutralising antibodies be enough to stop the virus ?
2) To what degree will it protect the elderly and vunerable?
3) How long will immunity last?

This is an interesting article and very relevant to Scancell.

A few snippets from the article:
