I think the stock goes up but not for the reasons you propose.

Voleon buying back their short provides support for the stock. That support only exists when they're buying.

As for all the other conspiracy theories about the stock being "held down" no one has yet proposed who is doing the holding down. Instead it is my opinion that we merely see the slow rotation of weak holders bottling. Shame we don't get a good leg downwards to speed up the flushing.

Interesting theory there Bantercity. If Voleon have been reducing their short (no doubt part of a portfolio strategy rather than a play on GKP solely) they will have been buying. In spite of this buying the stock is moribund. When they stop buying, most would expect that reduced demand to lead to a fall in the stock price, all else being equal, rather than a rise.

The stock market - and particularly this stock and those like it - is a big boys' playground. No one is/was 'sold down the river.' So, no, I don't 'respect' those who got it horribly wrong. Why would you respect such poor investment performance from an independent manager looking after your money? If I get it wrong I certainly wouldn't expect anyone to respect my performance.

News is needed, but additionally the ownership of this thing needs rotation. I wouldn't expect too much news until a new CEO is in place and I'd expect that to still take some time. For now oil is range-bound and a second wave of COVID in autumn may well send it lower again. Don't expect the company to become ambitious re growth until COVID is behind us - and that will require widely distributed vaccines which won't happen before 2Q 2021. Until then we need a lot more capitulation if the stock is to rally significantly.

If you don't like the risk best be own your way. This is not a short-term play and a lot of the time it's going to stink.

I first looked at this stock at 220p and decided to pass. Then came COVID and the great opportunity that came with it. Below 100p this stock is a MUCH more attractive play.

Yikes. So what's your weighted average cost basis? You've been prepared to ride the loss all the way down to 48p in return for what percentage annualized gain?

Here we go. The masses are getting all dizzy again.

I wonder how many of those wishing this stock higher have actually bought more in the last three months... The dialogue here seems to suggest a lot of naysayers who are still long (and have been wrong) and a lot of believers unwilling to add even at these very attractive pries.

too many muppets own it already. You need fresh interest to move the stock and for weak holders to be soaked up. At the moment there are too many of the latter and not enough of the former. Plowing June's receipts into the stock buyback would help a lot.

Straycat, on this you are right of course. And what a shame. I for one would like to see the company execute the approved buy back into treasury shares as soon as possible. The quicker weak and distressed holders are soaked up the faster we'll see fairer value. It's good to see - but not surprising - the stock regain some support even without the company bid. Of course there are some who will regard the recent steady, even if not spectacular, performance as 'manipulation'.

Last time I looked it was still above 100p. But lots of weak bleaters out there getting giggly when the stock is in triple digits. Soak 'em up. No need to push too hard when accumulating however.

In contrast, I think it's nothing more than weak holders continuing to exit. Volumes have been pathetic, albeit today is a little better. The buyback program and a couple of other buyers came back to the bid and the stock begins to tick a little. But Weatherdon shouldn't push too hard on the bid. There's a lot of bleaters to be mopped up and they go all giggly when the stock hits triple digits.
