The first Scottish referendum was rendered invalid by Brexit. Many pro independence Scots voted to stay in as they didn't want to leave the EU by going independent. This was an argument made specifically by Cameron, and the EU stated that leaving the EU would mean the Scots would have to re-apply to join the EU. The Scots voted against Brexit.

I'm not seeing any replies explaining why Greenlanders never exercised their constitutional right to hold an independence referendum? Greenland has the right to hold a referendum, but has never exercised that right. Greenlanders are Danish citizens. If Argentina offered to make each Falklander rich, you think they wouldn't push for an independence referendum? What you're really arguing is that sovereignty doesn't really matter. Unless it's a debate about Brexit, that is.

Pro independence Scots see themselves as Scottish, not British. They don't see their country as part of the UK. They have a pto independence government , and have political autonomy. Hence the arguments for Greenland being bought by Trump clearly apply to Scotland. If you're for one, then you have to be for the other. You can't have it both ways.

Interestingly, if you collect together all the arguments Trumpists are making for taking Greenland away from Denmark, then you could actually apply the same arguments to Scotland being taken into the American sphere of influence. Why not? And we know Trump is of Scottish descent and loves the place. And Scotland's independence movement is far more politically mature than the one in Greenland. I wonder what the Daily Heil would make of that?

With Trump aggressively trying to control global oil flows to America's advantage, I'm sure China will be keen to maintain its current supplies close to home. Putin has expansionist aims so its own supply will increasingly be swallowed up at home. Amazing to think that we are entering a historical epoch of neo-imperialism and this time it's only the superpowers who are carving up the globe between them.
