Cancelling stamp duty on primary property is an excellent policy though. It wouldn't "cost" anything because it would reinvigorate one of our biggest sectors which is housing and all the spinoff services and goods around. That would boost the economy and bring in more tax than the stamp duty itself.

It's also a matter of fairness. The stamp duty on a modest £400k home is currently £10k, that is absolutely insane when you're paying for a place to live with money you've already been taxed to the hilt on.

The numbers do not lie. The nations with the most renewables are the ones with the highest energy prices. The nations that use the most coal, oil and gas have the cheapest domestic energy. Even someone as thick as you can see that.

Quady you're right about baseload but you're missing another important issue. If we are to expand our use of renewables (and we won;t) then we need increase grid capacity quite significantly which would take a lot of time and a lot of money that we haven't got

It doesn't matter how cheap solar is if you can't use it 24/7. We need dependable always on power, have a look at the investment in AI data centres. How do we hope to become a world leader in AI if the supercomputers need to shut down when it's not sunny or windy?

Seeing as you can't (or won't) explain the discrepancy between 2018 and 2025 when the wholesale gas price is the same, I will do it for you.

F**k loads of wind contracts were awarded at the height of the Ukraine war when gas prices were soared. The strike price was at or in some cases 50% above gas to encourage "investment" (ie impoverishment)

So although the gas prices inevitably dropped hard back to normal levels, the deals we struck for wind at solar remained at peak prices for the length of their contracts. That is why our electricity is so stupidly high.
