I would add from a pure gaming point of view the more 'outs' you have the better.
Having Farm-in may be preferable to a placing but a placing is preferable to not getting a drill turning.

there was a comment posted earlier with a view of not looking toad to any holdings through a placing. My view on that is as yet not clear. Today, at 2.5p doubling my share count to maintain my% does not look attractive. Mrs P_I would have me in the dog house for the foreseeable future. At 1.5p I am still leaning towards a no.
I think it would need to be sub 1p for me to kick the dog out - I would still be in the dog house.

That is not to say it would not be worth the risk financially, just not worth the risk domestically.

P_I: but it can convey a message, flick a bean, beckon another to you, emphasise a point or just pick your nose and scratch your head.

I suspect that given the right conditions a single finger could indeed lift a small pebble.

UJO is an interesting punt, but it is a punt and not somewhere to put your life savings. Getting close to news flow there. Interesting times ahead. DYOR as always.
MATD I would place in a similar bracket.
CLON - now that is getting into basket case territory.

I think all 3 are sat on good prospects. MATD have a poor record in terms of what they have found historically but they are in a productive area and only need to get the drill right once to change the SP direction. Worth a note of DYOR and not just a read on the BB.
CLON I don't have a great deal of confidence that they will get a drill turning in the next 5 years but I keep an eye on it to see if the landscape shows any signs of changing. DYOR if you have time on your hands but today I would prioritise waxing your palms and howling at the moon.

Of the 3 I do hold a position in UJO and MATD. I trade both and do not hold a locked in pot in the same way as I do here with BPC.
CLON I would like to take a punt on but at the moment I may as well walk down to the casino and drop a k on lucky number (7) on the roulette table.

I think if we are all honest with ourselves we have asked the question why has a major not made a definitive play before now?

Questions not opinions:
Could be political (small p or big P)
Could be the board have been difficult to get a deal over the line with.
Could be the simple and unattractive option that having seen the data the appetite was not there.

lots of could be options.

If we did not have an alternative credit line today would BPC have been willing to give up bigger slice of the pie for a farm in just to get the deal done?
5% of something is better than 100% of nothing.

Specialist: I think he has a great tone. Hugely entertaining and only targeted at those who deserve it - like those who put wrong information on this board and still claim that they are right.

I have opinions on BPC, I share them, I am also willing to have my opinion changed with well reasoned argument. As my knowledge changes so can my opinion.

every now and then the BB gets a bit heated, that is fine, it is a platform for debate where differences of opinion are or at least can be informative or thought provoking.
That is healthy.
What is less healthy is the spiral down to base level. For the most part I have faith in the BB posters and believe that they are better than needing to resort to that.

Whilst the specialist can be irritating in the manor and tone of post there are some very valid points raised.

quashing rumours before they start. or just adding a bit of sport to the board.

I choose not to get involved in the back and forth over CLN but will just add a note of caution regards taking in goo faith the words of a CEO, any CEO not directed at SP.

They have an interest in the advancement of the business in which they are involved. It is in their interests to paint a positive or negative picture depending on the business needs at the time.
There is a big difference between telling the full truth, and not telling an outright lie.
Wording can make all the difference between two very similar looking statements. We only have to look back at the debate on this BB regards the end of the exclusivity deal.
The statement was deliberately worded as to be unclear I do not think that was done in error. BPC needed an element of ambiguity at the time, do not show your cards too early, which is why it was not clarified (hide behind an NDA) at the time.

the positive result is that we have more than one funding route open to us. Therefore our probability of drilling has increased. Surprised there has been less positivity on the BB.

Is that because there is a feeling that we have opened up the CLN path because the farm-in path was not going well?
Have BPC turned that way out of need or are they doing so to progress farm-in negotiations from more of a position of strength?

without knowing the terms of the farm-in it is not possible to know the size of the dilutive effect it will have.

However, if we assume that the dilutive effects are the same in both scenarios then I would have a clear preference for a farm-in from a major.
Justification -
It buys in expertise, it opens doors that are not open to BPC as a stand alone, it pools risk and it would be reasonable to assume that if we hit an issue e.g. the well costs exceed both budget and budget contingency - for whatever reason - having the financial support of a major is a quicker route to capital than any alternative route to capital as a stand alone explorer.

For the benefits it offers and the timing effects of dilution if we can retain a similar pct of final production in both circumstances I would find it hard to form a counter argument.

most of my investments are not in stocks.
of the stocks I do hold most are blue chip dividend plays.
Early retirement - several years before pensions kick in so I need a reasonably regular income to keep Mrs P_I in handbags and shoes.

The oil and gas sector and mining operations are just a bit of fun trading for me mainly.
BPC is an exception as it was a geographical area a friend of mine did a great deal of research work in some years back.

I was an early adopter of BMN, the business has changed direction since I started there, much to my benefit. Whilst I had done research on the original model I piggy backed the research of others on the BB when the model changed.
I do not post there often but read up daily.

I would also suggest looking on BBs of shares that have sudden SP moves up to understand how the rampers and derampers suddenly swarm a BB, recognise the message type, the grouping of messages and the speed the posts pick up recommendations at. Also note how groups of posters often change the nature of the posts when they have had their fun.

Whilst I do not subscribe to the belief that BB posters can dramatically change the overall SP direction they can create a market through sentiment and have a short term effect on a SP as a result. Beware not to get caught up in the game and only invest on the back of sound understanding.
That said, do not be afraid to take the occasional punt with cash you can afford to lose. It can be a good way to learn a valuable lesson (not to invest without knowledge) or occasionally to get lucky and stumble upon a unicorn. One outcome is far more likely than the other.

As a holder somewhere between the few thousand and the several 100k's level I agree with both strategies. It does leave me in a quandary though.
My original play was to hold 1m shares here for each of my grandchildren. I had this in hand for a while and had 'bottom drawered' the shares. We were then blessed with two bonus Padawan. I had to bide my time but did manage to add to the pot and re-satisfy the initial objective.
I then decided that sitting on the side lines here whilst the day traders had fun on the SP swings was not for me so added a 'trading pot' million.
The trading pot is up 40% - regretting not trading the full holding - but had the FOMO and greed thing going on.

Revised strategy.
sell out the grandchildren's pot at 20p if we get there. £200k each is a tidy nest egg for them to collect in due course.
Trade the trading pot up to that point then sit and hold.
Mrs P_I may have other ideas for the trading pot as the value increases so it is subject to change as the primary objective in life is always to keep your better half happy.
