Peter - tell me one good thing that will come from Brexit - no one seems to be able to answer that!
Short sighted and cushy life - I wish. I’ve averaged 14 hour days for 3 years! This year was meant to be an easy life year but I’ve worked my arse off to protect my staff, I haven’t furloughed a single person and I haven’t taken a pay check for 8 months.
I think of my family and my staff before I think of myself!
Dean - I agree with Scotland, not so sure about Wales.
Either way, it will make England more profitable if we weren’t subsidising the rest of the UK (Scotland will really struggle with oil becoming less of an asset in the coming decades).
It’s the choice of the Welsh and Scots to decide, I hope they go for independence
Castle - absolutely no idea (sorry).
Trading places - I agree with you. We have talent and we have the British persistence to create success. However, we’ve just given ourselves a huge handicap and it’s important to take a pragmatic approach when reviewing the likely scenarios come the new year.
Internally, in my business, I will continue to remain very positive on the future of the business despite having my eyes wide open with the hurdles we’ll face. I will do all I can to protect every single job and offer a stable environment.
Behind closed doors, discussions will continue to explore the pros and cons of exploring relocating the legal entity of the business to Europe (I already have a presence in Germany).
You’re right about the end of furlough, that mixed with Brexit is my worry.
As a nation, we will prosper but we need to keep our eyes wide open to understand the head wind in the coming years
Newbie - I think there are people that can answer the question far better than me.
My uneducated guess - companies that export heavily to the EU, companies that export to the EU and have to import raw materials from abroad (shipping is a big concern which could be a benefit to aviation in the short term (example Honda are exploring options to use air freight over sea freight due to the issue)).
Car makers across Europe will be really hurting (10% WTO standard agreement).
Any business that exports meat/ veg/ fruit/ cheese will really feel the pain - high end will be ok as people pay for luxury
Service companies should be ok as it’s expected to be a 3% ish levy
I personally don’t hold BJ accountable, it was Cameron (I liked him but it was his choice to hold the referendum) and 51% of the public - I think many were brain washed regarding Brexit and didn’t understand the consequences. This will impact all generations, the young will struggle with career options and taxes, the old will struggle with pensions.
If you’re in Spain, I’m pretty sure you can stay, i haven’t read up if they found a solution for those living abroad to receive pensions and healthcare
It’s such a mess
To add this to Covid creates the perfect storm. I’ll make a judgement call now that there will be more job cuts in 2021 than any other year since records began!
I have friends running small margin business that are struggling as it is, this will shrink there market massively as they won’t be able to compete in Europe.
I’m not overly worried about IAG (it will drop tomorrow) but some companies are going to really drop in the coming days
I’m not sure if your stupid, I don’t know you!
I do think anyone that voted to leave made a stupid decision for our country! Think of the 1000’s and 1000’s of jobs that will be lost.
I’m seriously considering moving my head office to Germany or Ireland.
Tell me one good thing that will come from Brexit?
I think it’s beyond clear, there will be no solution to the negotiations and a hard Brexit is the likely outcome.
I run a business trading 100% internationally (90% EU) and it’s time to face the facts that trade levy’s will start come the new year (just what UK business needs)
Itll interesting to see how this is managed by the government, the UK will be charging WTO taxes to the EU and countries like Germany, France and Spain will feel the pain just like UK firms. Will the government use the taxes they receive from Europe to support the UK businesses or will it be a funding source to pay the Covid debt??
Such a stupid decision 51% of the country made.
Even one of the big Brexit voices has decided to set up his car manufacturing plant in France, couldn’t make it up
I’d say this is pretty good news for IAG/ all airlines

I really dont think Brexit news will have a major impact.
What we need is the FDA approving a vaccine, cases in the US to come down and for the US to open the boarder to the Brits (and visa versa).
At that point, this will go crazy but it might not be for a few months!
I'm probably being very naive but I cant understand why the Brexit "no deal/ deal" would make a big difference for BA.
Travel will continue to happen, we already pay local taxes/ landing fees globally, we don't manufacture and distribute a physical product. What difference will it make?
I said back in April/May this would be developed this year and Biontech Pfizer would probably just nip the other leading contenders to the post.
The UK isn’t the only country where the local regulator is currently reviewing the approval so in the coming days and weeks, we could start seeing various parts of the world giving it the green light. Hopefully other vaccines will follow suit.
Whilst we’re not out the woods, this is such a massive milestone to get the airline industry back on track.
So happy!
Hey Wasu. Didnt sell. Missed out on some of the rights options (but not all of them as I forgot to action my wife's account).
Just got board of the doom and gloomers, this is always going to come good, just a matter of time and I'm willing to hold
Lockandloaded. Personally, I very much doubt there will be another rights issue.
Have you looked at the recent RNS' which clearly state the cash position? Also with the vaccine news and flexibility from the government on travel, things will pick up quite quickly. The Black friday sale will also generate a tonne of revenue to take us through the coming months.
Selling the artwork was a statement to show the staff they are doing everything possible to prevent cut backs.
The items being sold are simply not required anymore. Not sure where you have been over recent months, but BA has scrapped 40+ planes this year. Why throw the products away from 1000's of BA enthusiasts wont them! It'll probably raise a few 100k in the process. Qantas did the same thing after scrapping their 747's
Not sure how I feel about this.
Part of me feels for the mixed fleet and Gatwick crews as they’ll be earning far less than the old termers who aren’t as good as the mixed fleet crew (imo).
Part of me feels it’s fair they’re not getting a huge pay cut as they have mortgages etc
Part of me feels they should fire all non UK staff (staff that don’t reside in the UK). Again today I was on a flight and the passenger next to me was commuting to work from Italy! They were Italian and said it was better than working in Italy financially!!
Part of me thinks it’s ok as many have already taken voluntary redundancy so in a few years, they will almost be gone
Part of me thinks we need to stay strong against the unions
Part of me think Huw Merriman is a twat and shouldn’t get involved
I swear the same questions are being asked again and again.
Remember, many people on here have their own motives, call your broker for advise, read credible publications for advise (not the motley fool) and make your own call.
I’ve decided to buy my RI but make the decision yourself rather than from someone on here
