I'm not sure how you all feel but I'm really starting to get frustrated with the government (and in general, I've actually supported their decisions throughout the pandemic).
Several weeks ago (early January), the mood from the government was upbeat (we wont be under these restrictions for long, there is light at the end of the tunnel, we will have a summer, life will be much more like life before covid etc etc). Now its constant negativity.
I cant work out if they are trying to scaremonger or paint a bad picture so Boris can be our saviour on the 22nd Feb and set a road map with an end of lockdown by spring with boarders opening soon after.
Travel to many is vital for business, our economy is already struggling and without travel, we are limited to intra UK business (unless the business model doesn't require travel). We need to open up and let our business men and women make some money (taxes) for our economy).
This lockdown has been tough for most of the nation (much harder than last year imo). We need our holidays, we need our freedom and I just wish it could be clearly communicated when we can get some R&R. He's intentionally set the W/C 22nd to but them some time and delay things, people need to plan holidays and have something to look forward to.
One last point, putting Dubai on the red list is an absolute joke. They have lower cases than most and a good vaccine programme. Why punish the nation just because a few celebs took selfies!
Rant over
I think its clear by the investments made by the UK government that we will be getting a vaccine passport.
Personally, I dont think a one system fits all approach will work. As long as each country recognises each others vaccines passports, it wont be an issue (just having them as a unusable app on android/ apple should be enough)
Shell, BP, Total etc are being hurt for reasons beyond covid. The green changes being made globally mean their revenues will really hurt in the coming years
Absolutely no relevance to aviation!
Lol Justice. Clear trader, things have improved this week. Captain Tom doesn't change that!
It wont be a booming return to flying before the summer but I'm expecting a lot more normality come Q3/4
Sorry Big-Blue, I tend to agree with your opinion but your posts are becoming a touch odd. You have got it very wrong with the EU view of IAG
As for RYA, it is a competitor, albeit, a small one. They tend to fly to 2nd airports and offer a terrible service. If cost is vital then you would choose RYA, bar that, even EZJ would seem like first class in comparison.
For now (during lockdown) all destinations.
I've experienced it in a several countries (and by staff at UK airports prior to checking in). Most ask for written confirmation of who you are meeting and their contact details as well as your companies contact details (they never do anything with them from my experience)
I also have many many flights booked, some (not all) will be cancelled in the coming months for my leisure travel. Some (for my vaccine related business travel) will continue!
My flights in July/ August & October for leisure travel will happen imo!
You didn't acknowledge my message earlier on my predictions last year on the vaccine which you slammed at the time! Like I said, I'll choose to take my/ and other educated opinions over yours
WAM - run a quick search on www.ba.com for flights to Kos/ Crete etc for the first 3 weeks of August.
After you have done that, report back on the following:
1. Price
2. Load factor (you can see this before you complete the booking)
You might find travel for August is looking very good (just like the CEO of EZJ mentioned earlier this month).
WAM - give up!
This is very positive. Schools back in March, i expect the strict lockdown to end in April and holidays & business trips a couple of months later!
Brilliant work being done by the NHS on the vaccines!
FYI - not sure if you remember this but in May/ June last year, I said the Biontech vaccine (which I've worked on for the last 11 months) wll be approved by the end of the year ready for mass roll-out. I even predicted, AZ would be approved shortly after - you laughed, did your usual name calling etc etc. Turns out, I was right so I'll back my opinion more than yours!
Have a good day!
Mararab - you write like every single traveller is carrying the virus.
You need to remember that each traveller is having to take a test prior to boarding (which rules out much but not all of the risk!)
I dont disagree with a 3-4 week boarder closure (with some exceptions) but this is not the problem imo. The main issue is with people not sticking to the rules, I personally put a lot of blame on lower class families & young adults (18-30) bending and breaking every rule possible (I'm not saying everyone sticks to the rules fully but highlighting rule breaking that ive seen).
The amount of house parties, gatherings, not sticking to social distancing I've seen on facebook and with my own eyes is dramatic. Its very difficult to police but if this was resolved, it would dwarf the impact of closing the boarder!
Big Blue - the sales is for another 12 days! (maybe 14).
They also extended the book with confidence which is great.
I have a lot of upcoming trips, I booked my summer family trip a couple of weeks back and it was (still is) cheaper to fly to Miami with BA than it is to fly to most Greek islands in August (its equally as expensive with Easy Jet). This tells me the bookings are very very good for August!
