Just yesterday in Scotland - Chief Medical Officer Dr Gregor Smith said:

“This expansion builds on our existing testing strategy, and will help our efforts to ease the country out of lockdown safely. Routine testing is already available for people with no symptoms in a wide-range of settings, including schools, high-risk workplaces, and communities where COVID-19 rates remain stubbornly high.

“Rapid lateral flow testing is already helping us to find cases that might otherwise have been missed, as around 1 in 3 people with COVID-19 do not show symptoms. That’s why it’s vital people can access testing, even if they don’t feel unwell. It will help protect the people around you, and help us avoid another return to lockdown.

“It may be tempting to think as vaccinations increase and cases drop, that testing will become less important. In fact, this will only make it more important to spot and prevent new outbreaks as cases emerge. We know from our experience of last summer just how quickly one outbreak can lead to another.

“This also applies regardless of whether you have been vaccinated or not. While the latest evidence suggests vaccines provide a high level of protection against the effects of COVID-19, they don’t yet provide a guarantee that you can’t still get the virus or pass it on to others.

“By making home tests so widely available to everyone who needs them, people have more options to get tested and our strong advice is for people to take up this offer to protect people around them, and the progress we’ve made so far.”

Those frameworks don’t reference Covid, they’ll dish out LFD contracts within the 8bn or directly as they please, using whatever reasoning they fancy. I don’t find it strange at all

The number of tests daily in India is 1.6m. It’s horrifically inadequate.

Sounds like a pointless test

It needs to be RNS’d in the same way that ‘Ome...’ were RNS’d. PresAl referenced undisclosed collaborations. He’s not provided any specific info on further manufacturing, but has mentioned OEM, licensing and partners. It’s entirely plausible and possible that ncyt could help out Ome in providing a drinks service

Opening up events and mass gatherings are entirely predicated on testing. The govt are launching campaigns to encourage the younger folk to get their jabs. If they don’t get a jab because they think it doesn’t affect them, then it circulates, mutates and risks undermining the vaccine roll out for older folk. Social distancing will remain except where testing has taken place. Workplaces and employers won’t take risks if cheap testing eliminates it, plus you have centralised testing for govt, schools, public transport. Plus flu, coughs, colds, currently closed borders, differing rates of vaccine roll outs. Everything looks rosy having been in lockdown for months and spring is in the air, but we don’t know how effective it’s all been until winter. Saying it was a one way street was a risky thing. That is a fact IMO.

Despite the negative reaction to a vaccine passport, I would imagine there’d be a more positive response to a passport based on a quick non invasive and 100% sensitive test. Who wouldn’t fancy getting 100% back to how things were, just by regularly twiddling a swab up your nose...

Good luck with winter and a resurgence in flu if you’re not testing anymore. Testing will remain at least until next spring until there’s more confidence that the vaccines and boosters work. Govts will continue with test and trace beyond vaccines, that is a fact in Dr Gregor Smith’s opinion.

Just over a year ago, the share price was about 20p, there had been a fund raise and the oncology pipeline was a bit more of a pipe dream as further dilution would have been required.

Now, plenty cash in the bank, AVA6k heading on the clinic, numerous additional deals struck thanks to the Covid spotlight and days away from the commercial launch that will see several years, if not decades, of operating cash added.

Significant demand that will exceed supply. I don’t think they’ll struggle to sell everything they make. That is a fact IMO.

We already had probably 5m signed up, that’s where the minimum will come from. The govt nipped on and signed the rest and others, say 5m and have started adding additional capacity that will reach the 30m.

You scratch our back, we’ll scratch yours. The balance of negotiating power sits somewhere in the middle. We want the capacity, they want to best of British to stay here, margins are better elsewhere. Hopefully everyone will play fair, we’ll get a decent margin and access to the 30m. Then we still have deals with OEMs on top.

MrA, your costs remain the same. So if you believe there is £1 margin for the sovereign test, then there would be £5 margin for the commercial sales. You might knock off some extra margin for sales activity, but given they’re likely to be sold in bulk to other govts, you wouldn’t take off much.

That changes the commercial figure to £25m. Overall £50m ie £600m pa. Using £5 & £10 adds £25m+£10m totalling £85m ie £1bn pa

Quite right again ginge, most that can are still working from home. The extensive testing for schools has been because they weren’t part of lockdown. As more of the country unlocks, testing will increase along with it. Initially via free govt tests, but it’ll transition across to employers and it’s a small price to pay versus business interruption. That’s just the U.K., Europe are behind us and will follow our lead. All of that is a fact IMO.

Unfortunately I agree ginge. The vaccine roll out isn’t fast enough and widespread enough to achieve herd immunity so it’s now a case of learning to live with it. As PJT has said, we’ll have to accept becoming a pin cushion for booster jabs as outbreaks and variants circulate. Until there is no social distancing and open borders we can’t consider we’ve returned to normal and I can’t see that happening for quite some time.

Self test requirements for Germany. A bunch of additional paperwork it seems, but the CE mark is for professional use. Seems other countries are taking similar approaches of approving professional use tests for self testing. On that basis, the CE marking of our market leading test will see us well placed to gain market share across Europe, and anywhere that accepts a CE mark, for mass at home screening

Spot on Timster. Europe is still in a mess and a cycle of lockdowns. Just because the vaccine roll out here has been a huge success doesn’t mean it won’t take a long time to get near normal on a global scale. Then variants and the fact it’s becoming endemic. Way more demand than supply is all we need to know, it’s a big world.
