AI on pre concentrate / chemical processing price differential

A miner producing tungsten concentrate typically receives 70% to 80% of the value of the contained tungsten (

) compared to the prevailing Ammonium Paratungstate (APT) price.

This difference exists because the miner produces raw concentrate (usually 65-70%

), while the APT price represents the processed, refined midstream product.

The mining and extraction of Tungsten is the low end part. What currently happens once the Tungsten is extracted from a mine is that the chinese then do the chemical processing and they have this market sown up and this added value is where they have moved the price from 400mtu (which is 10kg) to circa 2200mtu in the space of 12 months. Tungsten is used due to its hardness in most things military and why the US govt has gone after tungsten plays globally due to china holding 80%+ of the global market.

It is a really interesting metals and commercially what the chinese have done behind the scenes for the past 2 decades is effectively a monopoly on the processing and buying it cheap and making the end product a multiple of it eg iron ore, copper etc

Hi Paddy - those are the numbers i got in USD as well circa 60bn USD in ground resource and 85bn AUD. What did surprise me was that Newcrest were planning on a 2MT a year own plant operation for OC which in todays prices of 220000 usd a tonne would equate at the 0.35% W to circa 1.5bn in revenue plus the base metal credits.

Just incredible we have potentially 3 Tier 1 mines in a 40km/40km radius and begs the question is there any other deposits in this prosperous patch of land eg is desert revenge another Telfer?

I was warned about investing in Bird companies but i went against the advice and invested in Bezant. I have decided that too many promises and lack of delivery with Bird and is a good spinner across his african potential mine sites has made me finally finish with the sell down today.

So we have now bridged the gap between Telfer and Haveiron officially but just with an additional 20 years + of mine life with Telfer. Then we have released finally the Newcrest information on OC for a multi billion dollar tungsten and base metal deposit only a few kms away from Telfer. Great news to underpin the SP in these volatile times and for me a long term hold.

I liked his interview - factual and to the point and can only state what he can. Sounds like multiple parties are interested in funding and if the Americans will not then the Chinese will. Reality is for petty cash eg 40m usd for p1 there is no way the US will let this go to the Chinese. This friday march 6th is the cut for inclusion based on market capitalisation into the ASX 100 so not sure what time/date it will be announced the additional companies which i would expect GGP to be one and the omissions. This should help the SP in the next few weeks.
