Royal Ascot Day 1
14.30 Will probably be made to look a fool and Real World could be to Baaed what Excelebration was to Frankel he's probably got a way to go yet mind for that comparison REAL WORLD 9/1 15.40 MAN OF PROMISE 14/1 KINGS LYNN 14/1 I think the drop to 5f should suit Man Of Promise and I really liked King's Lynns run at Haydock last time its at this age alot of sprinters start to get there act together. 16.20 MIGHTY ULYSSES 14/1 Quite interesting they've entered him here. I think that handicap at Haydock might turn out pretty well with the unbeaten Whoputfiftyinyou entered in the Britannia on Thursday maybe an EW double should Mighty Ulysses win? MALJOOM 14/1 17.00 PROSCEMA 16/1 Dual code trainers have such a good record in this race. Hopefully feeling like a lucky punk tomorrow MAKE MY DAY 20/1 GLA :)
Sorry for late post 15.40 ATOMIC LADY 12/1 BAY BREEZE 33/1 Tim Easterby good record in race GLA :)
50/1 2nd beaten a head in The Dash. Great to see Desert Crown win The Derby however lets hope he wins more Group 1s this year. 15.00 French Derby LASSAUT 9/1 I liked his Dad Almanzor who won this for same trainer JC Rouget and a memorable Irish Champions Stakes and he is probably my favourite French horse. I'll forgive him that run in French Guineas IMPERIAL FIGHTER 16/1 also GLA :)
Well done Harry I picked the wrong Galileo! Tomorrow 15.45 MASTER MATT and MOUNTAIN PEAK 25/1 16.30 STAR OF INDIA and WALK OF STARS 14/1 the two stars Kieran Fallon has been beating the drum for this horse he works with the Godolphin horses and has said he's left his last run well behind worth a punt at the prices although would love Michael Stoute to have one last nice horse like Henry Cecil before he likely packs it in GLA :)
Mine today 15.10 HUKUM 5/1 16.30 THOUGHTS OF JUNE 12/1 WITH THE MOONLIGHT 12/1 I can’t not back a Galileo. Did like Nashwa but was hoping for bit bigger on the day GLA :)
I’ve backed these two at Longchamp today 14.45 PLACE DU CARROSEL 3/1 15.25 DILAWAR 5/1 GLA :)
14.40 STATE OF REST 3/1 15.45 AGARTHA 14/1 PANAMA RED 14/1 GLA :)
Mine today 14.35 SPIRIT CATCHER 11/1 DIRTYOLDTOWN 11/1 15.20 ATOMIC JONES 25/1 Ger Lyons and Colin Keane won race with Sishkin couple of years ago has had similar prep to last years win Mac Swiney but acknowledge might only be playing for place GLA :)
Thanks Harry good lay bet yesterday. So following my previous post going with 18.00 Curragh VISUALISATION 10/1 STAR HARBOUR 10/1 and ADMIRAL NELSON 16/1 1pt win on each GLA :)
Just thought I post how I go about my betting now. I followed a professional punter a few years ago on the jumps and he has a very similar process of only betting in certain races and this is what I do now. There is alot of racing and this helps whittle it down. Currently I am approximately +55pts up to Betfair SP since last September to 1pt win bets. Just makes things a bit more selective and hopefully people on here might have their own views.
All Group 1s including in Australia, Hong Kong, France and if possible the USA (unfortunately options are limited). I have been having the most success betting on Aussie Group 1s as whilst there are many they often have good field sizes. The worse is UK and Irish flat but hoping that picks up in the next few months.
All Grade 1 jumps races and Graded Handicaps (not Listed) in the UK and Grade A Handicaps in Ireland
On the flat all Heritage Handicaps and Premier Handicaps in Ireland where prize money is in excess of £50k for the winner
So qualifying races this weekend are
Friday Curragh Emerald Mile Handicap
Saturday Down Under Doomben Cup The Goodwood
Haydock Silver Bowl Heritage Handicap
Irish 2000 Guineas
USA Preakness Stakes
Sunday Hong Kong Champions and Chater Cup (on the Tote)
Irish 1000 Guineas
Tattersalls Gold Cup
So if you've got any thoughts please share I don't know what I'm going to back at the Curragh on Friday yet. This can be a pain when there is a Honeysuckle in a race and you don't want to back a 1/5 shot so on occasion I've left it alone.
Early Derby thoughts: I thought Desert Crown was super impressive at York and I'd like a jolly to win it as we've had some big prized winners in recent years and would love to see another Golden Horn who wins almost everything. Of the O Brien horses the ones who impressed me in the trials were United Nations and Changingoftheguard. I think if they are available at double figure odds I'd proably back them. In The Oaks I liked Nashwa on Saturday at about 7/1 not sure if she'll run but would be great to see little Hollie Doyle with a ride one of the best jockeys at the moment GLA :)
Longchamp 14.15 WHO KNOWS 40/1 ZELDA 50/1 14.55 MAKING MOOVIES 25/1 TUMBLER 25/1 GLA :)
Tomorrow 15.20 REAL WORLD 8/1. Unbeaten on turf and some horses just dont handle the dirt (In the Saudi race himself, Mishriff and Sealiway finished in the last 4 home). Hugh Taylor put him up for the Hunt Cup last year at 50/1 and he was a good winner of that race. I think SBS has tried and failed to turn him into a horse that can act on dirt similar to Benbatl. I thought he was going the right way last year and even at 5 years old could be more to come. Baaeed will be hard to beat but if Real World hadn't run over winter would probably be more like 4/1 I do respect the mares also GLA :)
No bets from me but interested to see how White Wolf gets on in the Dante GL :)
My 2 for the Kentucky Derby if that’s your cup of tea MO DONEGAL 10/1 and CHARGE IT 14/1 Very coltish and immature last time but think has the ability GLA :)
Tomorrow
15.00 CORMIER 11/1 HERBIERS 12/1
16.05 STAR OF ORION 20/1 HIERONYMUS 25/1 EAGLE WAY 40/1
GLA :)
Going to take a chance on a couple of Ian Williams runners tomorrow HALIPHON and THE GRAND VISIR 20/1 in The Chester Cup. HALIPHON is unexposed over staying distances. The Grand Visir was 2nd last year in race and 7lbs better off with Falcon Eight GLA :)
