Not convinced the name calling warrants a response, however, it would appear that there are simply several things that you either do not have a grasp of, or, simply refuse to admit. In the first instance, can you tell me who is currently at the top of the order book - both the buy and sell side? No? A pity. Because if you could, then perhaps you’d see it’s not actually a market maker anyway. It’s someone with DMA. Ergo, a buyer or a seller. Just one that’s likely more sophisticated than you.
Secondly, in high volume SEAQ stocks market makers are there simply to provide liquidity. The do not ‘set the price’ as suggested above. Of course they do have a role to play in price when it comes to some shares on the junior AIM market (perhaps your thought processes originate there), however, they are certainly not the driver in price here. They can impact price discovery by providing liquidity, but, if there aren’t buyers and sellers in the market then that liquidity will remain unused.
Lastly, thanks for the cogent demonstration of the Dunning–Kruger effect. In future before you call me stupid and suggest that I am being illogical, no doubt you would be well served if you could apply a little logic yourself.
