On the farm the farmer can get information from a sensor about the soil moisture to see if it’s dry and needs watering.

Take that one step further and the sensor can get information to see if the soil needs watering and then tells the water system to turn on and how much water is needed.

There are sensors for light, air quality and temperature which can be used on farms and the information from all of these sensors will help farmers in the future to understand how to grow crops best.

Business owners can shrink monthly power consumption with smart lighting and sensors. Smart video doorbell cameras and locks let you give remote access for deliveries or employees. It keeps your business safer too. Smart thermostats reduce energy waste by learning your staff’s temperature preferences and the cheapest times to heat and cool.

The healthcare industry is perfect for IoT. It’s a growing, highly regulated and tech-dependent market. Today, many “smart” hospitals are using IoT devices for remote patient monitoring through wearables and health sensors. Integrated monitoring systems can now track patients, staff and equipment like an “indoor GPS.” This maximizes resources and saves money. Healthcare providers are also using small ingestible devices (i.e., “smart pills”) that transmit data about medication effectiveness, leading to better decision-making about patient care.

An increasing number of IoT cameras, appliances and sensors are used every year, and 2020 will continue the steady pace of growth.

It's so important to read these results in full a number of times and try to understand them as best you can.

The Company will continue to monitor new opportunities to increase its product offering, both through its current distributors and via direct sales to customers. The Company is also increasing the size of its own sales force and adding new distributors to ensure that global coverage and penetration is maximised.

The adjusted EBITDA result for the year to 30 June 2019 was a loss of A$1.6 million (2018: loss of A$1.5 million). Cash reserves as at 30 June 2019 were A$2.4 million which was up from A$1.9 million as at 30 June 2018, due to the capital raise that occurred in November 2018. Not included in the FY 2019 cash reserves is the Federal Government R&D tax rebate which is expected to be approximately A$1.6 million (November 2018: A$1.6 million) with these funds expected to be received before the end of the current calendar year.

Market expectations were for a EBIDTA loss of A$2.4m when the actual adjusted EBIDTA loss was A$1.6m so A$0.8m less than THE market expected.

Cash reserves at 30 June were A$2.4m plus a future R&D tax rebate of about A$1.6m will bring Cap-xx cash reserves total to at least A$4m.

Energy storage technologies are the key stone of the future of sustainable energy systems. Supercapacitors are an emerging energy storage technology with exceptional high power characteristics and longer useful lifetimes than mainstream energy storage technologies such as lithium batteries. The development of this technology has been progressing at a faster rate in the last 10 years. The transport industry is using them in trains, electric buses and cars. Smartphones may have supercapacitors in the near future in order to improve their energy efficiency and so on.

Trading Update on 16 April 2019 stated that Cap-xx revenue would be light. We knew this already.

Market expectations from this 16 April 2019 trading update was that the Cap-xx EBITDA would be a loss of A$2.4m.

The actual Cap-xx EBITDA loss reported in the FY2019 accounts today was A$1.8m. Cap-xx EBITDA loss has done better than Market expectations by A$0.6m.

The recent FY19 trading update from CAP-XX, the leading supercapacitor designer and manufacturer, reported that while EBIT and EBITDA are expected to be in line with forecasts, revenue will be light. This shortfall reflects slower than expected conversion of new business opportunities into sales and the lack of new orders from Spire.

On a reported basis, the EBITDA loss is likely to be better than forecast (A$2.4m versus A$2.8m) given a lower SBP charge.

Research had already told me this from Cap-xx's statement on 6 June 2019 as follows:-

Following the trading update announced on 16 April 2019, the Company is pleased to announce that EBIT and EBITDA for the year ending 30 June 2019 are expected to be in line with market expectations.

Patent owners got a win from the USA Supreme Court—patent owners can now generally eliminate the risk that their actions will be dismissed for long delays. And there can be all sorts of reasons a patent owner may want to wait to bring suit. For example, the patent owner may want to allow the infringer to make greater sales thereby increasing the patent owners’ potential damages, wait for better timing, take time to line up the best experts, or may need time to raise funds to bring the suit.

This ruling could strengthen patent cases and possibly lead to larger damages in certain situations. Patent owners now have less risk in allowing damages to accrue and waiting to sue for patent infringement. Defendants have one fewer defense that can be employed to defeat damage claims. The larger impact is likely to be felt in litigation with non-practicing entities, which can notoriously involve very old (or expired) patents and large claims of past purported damages.

For decades, defendants accused of patent infringement could assert the defense of laches to eliminate damages that accrued before the patent owner sued if the plaintiff’s unreasonable delay in filing suit prejudiced the defendant. The U.S. Supreme Court, in SCA Hygiene Prods. AB v. First Quality Baby Prods. LLC[1], largely eliminated this long-available defense. Applying reasoning from the copyright infringement context, the Court explained that the separation of powers prevents a judicial construct from overriding a congressionally set statute of limitations. With this decision, patent owners will not be penalized for waiting to see whether a defendant’s infringing activity is commercially successful enough to justify litigation. The Court, however, also emphasized that “the doctrine of equitable estoppel provides protection against … unscrupulous patentees inducing potential targets of infringement suits to invest in the production of arguably infringing products” and then pursuing an infringement claim.
