RE: Boohoo - Stockopedia - Paul Scott6 Apr 2021 19:13
Paul Scott was a Finance Director for a UK fashion company before leaving to become a personal investor and write for the likes of the Small Cap Value Report on Stockopedia.
Here's some more of what Paul Scott has to say:-
As a former industry insider, I can tell you that re-labelling of clothing is widespread, and perfectly legal.
What would happen is that (say) New Look would cancel an order -maybe because it was late, or because they'd realised it wasn't going to sell well. The supplier is then stuffed with a lorry load of imported clothes with New Look labels on them. They ring up Pilot (my old employer), who buys the stock cheaply, and sends it to a re-labelling firm in Devon, who cut out the New Look labels, and sew in Pilot labels. The stock is then delivered to our warehouse, tagged with freshly printed Pilot barcodes, and goes out to the shops.
The main point is, it doesn't matter! The customer makes a free choice to buy a product or not. If they don't like it, they return it for a full refund.
But ultimately, the figures will do the talking, all this is background noise. Let's see what the results look like soon.
So, maybe Boohoo did send the stock for re-labelling and three items got through that hadn't been re-labelled properly.
