In January 2021, citing Covid-19 and problems with data access, SundaGas asked ANPM to extend the time by one year, until December 2022, for them to analyze seismic data and decide whether to drill a test well. Baron Oil updated investors on the project in April, and acquired the remainder of SundaGas's share of Chuditch in June.

A January 2022 presentation by Baron Oil described why "This year is going to be important for Chuditch & Baron", which was echoed in the trade press two months later. In September, SundaGas presented an update to an industry conference in Perth. The following month, ANPM granted the company's request to delay the decision on drilling until June 2023.
