RE: Spod Price6 Jan 2026 11:30
I'd, I'm sure we sympathise with your frustration. I am a LTH but we need to be realistic. Whether we like it or not if you compare the hype during the Autumn with reality the experience was rather disappointing. I am a glass is half full type, but today for once will dwell on the downside as that appears what is keeping the price low.
The price secured on the first shipment was lower than most expected. However in reality was considerably higher than would have been achieved just a few weeks earlier. The hype sadly trashed this benefit. In many ways if you over hype you will pay.
The tonnage was lower as a consignment than some were expecting. There was water content to consider. You would be amazed at times how high this can be in things. As a very exaggerated example take a solid object like a cucumber. 90% water.? Ore with say a 5% content I suspect is not unreasonable. A further deduction is grade and we have been told because of last year's rainy season the mining of higher grade ore was being delayed due to flooding. Lower quality ore was being mined instead which on the brightside gave a good opportunity of testing the system tweaks.
The rise in spod price is great. However we need to see confirmation all is now running smoothly. The better grade ore is now being mined and a few timescales of how all is going. The spod price can be double but is irrelevant until we come to sell. Until then I think we will plod along. We have the confidence that the team can act fast and open a working mine in record time. What we have yet to achieve is confidence we can sustain a good profitable operation. Have you noticed how all the positive type posts promise better times ahead as each item is ticked off. Fair enough but having a great team, great mine etc is only as good as the results it achieves. Consistency is now what we need to see. I have every confidence it will happen, just slower than some of the more excitable posters would have you believe. Sadly they do more harm imo than you might think sometimes. I'm just as guilty. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. We like to be positive but can back fire when disappointment comes knocking. We will get there. 2026 will be our year. Just will take time sadly.
