Good to see another crackpot idea fell at first hurdle today. Environmental Charity….ClientEarth, had sought to bring a lawsuit against Shell alleging it couldn’t achieve its stated aim of net zero carbon emissions by 2050, based on its current transition strategy. How they worked that one out I’ve no idea nor it seems did the Judge, who was having none of it and refused trial permission, probably not that impressed the charity only held 27 shares in Shell anyway.

Tightness on the Supply side should now be maintained, certainly if further stimulus to the China economy is seen, with any US interest rate movement / Dollar strengthening likely to have minimal /short term effect. Did like UAE’s Energy Minister saying the group ( OPEC) is “only a phone call away” if any further steps are needed to support the Market. Brent past $85 by Q3, would be good and entirely possible IMO.

@PP1. was only making the point that Corporate Governance ensures that whilst Directors / Employees may leave it doesn’t allow any wrong doing to depart with them. Subsequent corrective actions many well help their cause of course, it’s just an unfortunate distraction no one wants but don’t see any reason to panic.

Yes that was my understanding with 80% weighting against TSR ‘s and 20% against Emission targets. Overall they’re fairly well remunerated even against a lack lustre SP !

Seems a better market to be in rather than Renewables, given the latest news about Swedens state energy giant Vattenfall now stopping its multibillion pound development of its Norfolk (UK) offshore wind farm due to cost inflation of up to 40 per cent. Was scheduled to power 1.5 million homes as part of government’s plan to deliver 50 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2030. Guess it won’t be the only project to now come under scrutiny. Maybe someone will think it’s time to look at Oil extraction again !

Clearly a good tailwind now behind us, with input cost inflation tamed and strong Q1 growth helped by a growing International base. One to hold onto.

Jan. don’t know why but that input prompted me to think of methane with one positive that effective Jan2023 qualifying investment on decarbonisation costs in upstream production now has an eligible 80% allowance, up from 29%. I know it’s a rather random fact, but you can’t let even a small insidious gas escape like Methane go to waste !
