it concentrades on credi cards mortgages personal loans savings accounts......JUST LIKE METRO but Metro has the income from safe deposit boxes Nationwide dont.
imo I think Metro have got it right, they need a bigger presence on the high st but the branches need to be boutique style not oversized

I AGREE, LLOYDS IN MANCHESTER HAVE BEEN DOING THIS PRECISELY FOR THE LAST 2 YRS. UPSTAIRS THEY HOST BUSINESS SEMINARS, BIG SUCESS. THEY HAVE INSTALLED SAFE DEPOSIT BOXES WITH SUCESS, THIS IS SOMETHING THEY GOT RID OF YEARS AGO....THIS IS THE WAY FORWARD AND METRO BANK NEEDS TO ADOPT THIS MODEL

How can Nationwide expand and keep their presence on the high st selling mortgages, loans, pacaged accounts and all kinds of insurance??
This is the way forward expand the branches where other banks are closing. Expand the services, Insurance, packaged accounts, share dealing etc
The high st will return in a differnt form and Metro must be ready.
Go against the sheep and expand the network, if the network is not there then Metro will die.

This book by Vernon Hill is a fantastic read. He points out the things wrong with the big banks an lays out his business model which it should be taking off. It is called FANS NOT CUSTOMERS
Metro needs to attract customers, expand their offerings, such as value added accounts, share dealing--link up with say Fidelity, share based ISAs. etc . This bank should be rocking because it is ALL down to customer service, having contacts in the branches. When did you last ring your bank branch??? You cant you go through a call centre with all the frustration this brings. Staff in branches that you can see as a walk in, not having to make appointments.....And not to mention the revenue from safe deposit boxes

A takeover by Nationwide Building Society would fit into their ethos very well, they are trying to get into business banking, they are keeping the high street presence. Any thoughts???
