Not clutching at straws quite happy sitting it out and collecting divi’s on the way as I am with my Shell shares. My view is there is more chance of this being taken over than not.

Companies like Shell and others are not going to play their hand out in the open pushing the price up. They say one thing and do another.

Shell do the decent thing and cancel their buybacks. Maybe when they have bought enough back and their SP is higher they will have another go for BP

LONDON, May 20 (Reuters) - Shell CEO Wael Sawan said on Tuesday that the bar for acquisitions is very high in response to a question from a shareholder at its annual general meeting on how well rival BP would fit with its assets.

He added this was especially true given that Shell's current share price made it very attractive for the company to continue with its buyback programme, echoing previous comments amid media reports that Shell had studied the option of buying BP. (Reporting by Shadia Nasralla)

I see Elliot has upped his short on Shell to 0.63% it’s not a good look for Shell to buy BP while Elliot is shorting it. Plus for Shell they don’t need the hassle of an activist investor within BP as Shell do very well on their own.

If we are looking for a rescuer it has to be a company that doesn’t mind having Elliot on board. His activities are unknown. I think we are on our own for a little while longer.

Hold fast guys and girls … soak up the divi’s and get on with life.

Shore Capital remained positive on the shares, reiterating a 'buy' rating and saying the group is "executing very well and giving itself wiggle room to be competitive.

"Tesco has a strong financial constitution. It is defensive in this crazy world. It is also thinking about tomorrow today from a position of strength," said Black.

Jefferies also reiterated a 'buy' stance and said the company's call with analysts later on Thursday would see more detail shared and enable the City to "triangulate both guidance and TSCO's response to Asda more fully".

I guess we have seen it all before the market constantly overreacts to everything.

It was good few minutes before a price appeared on stock exchange.

Market makers running around trying to fix a price during and after the auction.

So just sit and stick it out until it comes good and it will.

In the meantime we have the buybacks and a raised dividend.

We propose to pay a final dividend of 9.45 pence per ordinary share, taking the full year dividend to 13.70 pence, up 13.2% year-on-year.

So Trump blinked because of the disparity between the price of stocks and bonds.

As rule when stocks come down bonds go up but this time it did the opposite bonds came down as well.

So the bond yield rose too fast having the effect of pushing up the price of debt and potentially causing inflation...

The hedge funds sold off and stopped buying more bonds...

I also heard that hedge funds were in big trouble because they were getting margin calls from the banks as they had to close their leveraged positions on stocks..

So I think another reason for the lack of US bond buying is they probably ran out of money and the banks were getting panicky and stopped loaning it out....

Agreed Armani yes you are right we did and legal and General I think you were still living in the UK then. My brother who has never sold anything and just held on and on now turns left when he boards a plane. He loaded up on Games workshop at £5 a share now £13K a share. Ive never had that luck but I think to be comfortable with life you need a mix of incomes and you do what you think is best at the time and that is that.

It’s painful seeing your money disappear. I never have regrets selling at a profit… yes maybe I leave money on the table but ca la vie . Back in 2022 I kept seeing my Rolls Royce shares falling and falling I ended up selling the lot at 85p. Last time I looked it RR was £8 ish “Ouch” Anyway I put all my RR money into virgin income bonds £19k worth. I used the yield as monthly income. I am retired and need income.

I currently hold half my capital in Income bonds currently paying 4.5% It’s a buffer and right now I am glad I do.

On balance I have made money out of the market but it’s never been easy or straightforward.

Talking about the whole market..... I’ve decided to sit it out now

No more buying or selling........ in my experience macro events like this can sometimes take 3 years to get back to normal.

Hi Parky I think you did the right thing as you sold at a profit.. Most people right now are selling their shares at a loss because they can’t stand the pain of seeing their capital falling any lower and who can blame them.

Back in today. My oil shares are getting hammered. My supermarket shares are doing ok.

We do what we think is best at the time but it’s very difficult negotiating the market right now..

Also holding cash for opportunities

I managed to add a few here this morning and Tesco.

Initially the SP dropped a lot but now it’s pushed back up and looking more positive. As long as New York session don’t tank everything, I am hoping that by the end of the day things will be better.

I was hoping that Elliot would have closed his short on Shell on Friday and put the money in here.

I know. “Hope springs eternal”

I hold Shell and these, saying that Shell has done better but with BP I am the eternal Optimus! ( no pun intended)
