Central Illapa is a 256 MW open cycle greenfield gas fired power development of which Rurelec owns a 100 per cent. interest
The project has the potential to convert to a 358 MW combined cycle power plant as part of its second stage development."
We know the value of this investment and the two turbines have been written down in the accounts to £9.92m, which is substantially less than the company originally invested.
In the interim report the company made the following statement:
"In Chile, the necessary environmental consents and land leases were renewed to extend the project and the Board continues to review options in the light of the risks versus rewards of undertaking this project."
A disposal of the above assets would clearly have a significant impact on the balance sheet and working capital.
